It would have been around 11 PM in Italy when Grande tweeted her message. She followed it up with a hilarious meme of the "Born This Way" singer appearing to be asleep during a live stream.
The "Thank You, Next" singer shared a screenshot of Grammys announcing their win, plus a few photos of the two women together, including a candid photo and one of them onstage. The beginning of her caption read:
"MOTHER MONSTER WAKE UP @ladygaga !!!!!!??………"
Grande then expressed how grateful she was for Lady Gaga and for the experience of creating the song together. She called "Rain On Me" a celebration of recovery and healing. It is clear that the two women bonded during the song's production as Grande shared that she was thankful that Lady Gaga was her dear friend.
Elle reported that Grande had opted not to attend the event.
She also referenced the popular song's music video, with photos of the two pop singers on set, saying she was grateful that they danced together in the rain.
Grande's post on Instagram gathered over 3 million likes in less than 24 hours. The comment section was filled with love and support from fans and friends. She ended off the message with:
"beyond thankful. congratulations queen, ti voglio bene."
Although Grande and Gaga won the award, neither were at the ceremony in Los Angeles. Lady Gaga is in Europe, working hard on her new movie.
Elle reported that Grande had opted not to attend the event. So, fashion lovers will have to wait for her 2021 red carpet looks just a little longer as she usually wears the most amazing outfits.
Gaga and Grande had some fierce competition, but managed to beat Taylor Swift and Bon Iver for their song "Exile," "Intentions" by Justin Bieber and Quavo, BTS' "Dynamite" and J Balvin, Dua Lipa, Bad Bunny, and Tainy's “Un Dia.”
All the nominations were worthy songs. Gaga and Grande actually made history with their win as it was the first time collaboration by two women had won the award.
