Story of the Day: Woman Keeps Her Ex-husband's Last Name and Plans to Give It to Her Baby

It has been over a year since Milena separated from her husband Matthew, but it seems he won't leave her in peace for still carrying his last name.

Milena was only 20 years old when she married her high school sweetheart, Matthew Dove. They were very much in love during the first year of their marriage, but soon things fell apart.

After a year, Matthew fell in love with his co-worker and left Milena to pursue the officemate. Sad and alone, Milena moved to a different country to start a new life.

However, she did not bother to change her last name to her maiden name because of the hassle of changing all documents and getting questions from friends.

Moreover, her maiden name was difficult to pronounce and spell because of her Slovenian ancestry. She also hated her father for being abusive and leaving her at the age of 13.

On the other hand, Dove was an easier name for everyone to remember and has become hers for over a decade without having emotional attachments to her ex-husband.

At 32 years old, Milena got pregnant with the man she was dating. Unfortunately, he did not want to keep the baby and moved to a different country to pursue a new career.

Now independent and financially stable, Milena decided to raise her child alone, as it was always a dream to become a mother. Her job was safe from the pandemic, and she was earning more than enough to feed a family.

As the child would be born out of wedlock, Milena's last name, Dove, would be carried by her newborn. One day, the mom-to-be received a message from Matthew, asking if she would use his last name for her child.

Milena was surprised her ex-husband found out as she never announced it anywhere. Additionally, they have not spoken since the divorce making it a big deal. Nevertheless, Milena told the truth and noted that she was in a different continent now.

At that point, Matthew began cursing at Milena and called her and her unborn child several other names. In the following days, she began receiving hate mail and threats from his girlfriend, family, and friends.

According to Matthew's family, Milena is obsessed with her ex-husband and is horrible for giving a last name that is not hers to begin with.
