MCKAYLA MARONEY'S EARLY LIFE

The Olympic gymnastics champion was born in Long Beach, California. It did not take time for her mother to recognize her high energy level. This prompted McKayla's early enrollment in gymnastics.

Before age two, her passion for sports had already become something that would take her to a world stage, and it finally did. McKayla's early rise to an impressive start began with her enrollment at the National Gymnastics Training Center in CA.

She later moved to the Gym Max Academy of Gymnastics in the same state but in Costa Mesa. Her final move was to the All Olympia Gymnastics Center.

There, the athlete had the best hands available to groom her— her coaches were an ex-Bulgarian Olympian Galina Marinova and a past Soviet Union gymnast Arthur Akopian.

Luckily, throughout this process, she had the support of her parents, who never deterred in showing their unwavering love.

AN IMPRESSIVE SPORTS CAREER

At age 13, McKayla entered her first tournament at the Visa Championships in Dallas, finishing third place in the vault's junior division. The next year, the young athlete emerged the best and took the first position.

A few months after her dad's death, Maroney stunned her fans with a music career launch.

This did not afford her the luxury of resting on her oars, as she braced up for the next year. Eventually, the teenager brought home the trophy the second time in 2011, after coming first place at the Visa Championships.

Her other victories included a top position at the 2010 Pan American Championships, 2011 World Championships, and the 2011 and 2012 City of Jesolo Trophy.

In 2012, McKayla Maroney suffered injuries that included a concussion, minor nose fractures, and bruises during the Olympics warmups. Still, she managed to pull through to the trials and earned a spot on the country's team.

With her impressive skills and determination, the teenage athlete achieved a groundbreaking record by being the only American ever to win a gold medal in the vault.

PERSONAL TRAGEDIES

Sadly, this vibrant, high-spirited Olympic legend has had her share of life's tragedies. As noted earlier, she is now retired from Olympic gymnastics.

Before quitting the sports, she engaged in a lawsuit with the former Team U.S.A Gymnastics and Michigan State University doctor Larry Nassar over an alleged abuse case.

A few months later, she made some revelations about the abuse case. The Olympic gold medalist confessed that the traumatizing experience makes her doubt if the career was worth it.

Her mom, Erin, also commented on the matter. She explained that the incident took a toll on her daughter, especially after the big reveal that sentenced the doctor to over 100 years in jail.

In 2019, the Maroneys suffered a hurtful loss. McKayla's beloved father, Mike, passed away. This news was relayed in a soul-stirring post honoring and mourning the deceased.

It all dates back to 2012, when she could have won a gold medal in the women's vault competition. Sadly, she earned silver after a shocking fall, leading her to display her unhappiness when receiving the award.
