Story of the Day: Man Refused to Visit His Mother on Her Birthday

Kevin was fifteen when his mother Rochelle remarried to a man named Bobby. He did not get along with Bobby from the start. He did not even consider him as his stepfather.

Clearly, Bobby did not like Kevin either. He was pretty controlling and would forbid Kevin's friends from being in the house, even after Rochelle authorized them to go there.

Since Kevin was so stubborn, he butted heads with Bobby the most while his mother served as a mediator. Even though he's now thirty years old, Kevin still feels aversion towards his stepfather.

Kevin now lives on his own with his wife, Danica. He sometimes visits his mother and his beloved cat at their house. One day, Kevin noticed the cat was missing, so he asked his mother where it was.

He was devastated when Rochelle told him she didn't know. The cat was so close to his heart. Then last month, his mother apologized to him and revealed that Bobby was the one who got rid of the cat.

When Kevin saw Bobby, he immediately confronted him. In the end, Bobby confessed that he was tired of all the hairs and the cat roaming around everywhere, so he took it to a shelter.

The people around him are telling him to stop thinking about the cat.

At that moment, Kevin almost lost it, and his mother tried to calm him down. Kevin told them he would not talk to them again, and he did not want his mother to expect him at her birthday.

While in his car, he could feel his heart pounding and little tears streaming down from his eyes. For months, Kevin had been seeking the cat, but it turned out that it was at a shelter.

The people around him are telling him to stop thinking about the cat. They said his mother was devastated because he did not attend her birthday. Some even called him immature.

Three days ago, Kevin decided to speak with Rochelle. Again, she apologized for what happened back then. However, she pointed out that shutting people out on an important day wasn't acceptable.

Kevin was engulfed in all the confusion. He's having a tough time deciding how to deal with the whole thing and isn't sure if it is his fault that he wasn't at her birthday party.
