More Than 30 Bullets Fired in an Alabama Park on Easter Leaving 1 Woman Dead and 4 Kids Injured
A woman was fatally shot after more than 30 bullets were discharged in an Alabama Park incident over the Easter Holiday. The victim has been identified as Areyelle Yarbrough.
According to the Birmingham Police Department, officers responded to Patton Park just after 7:00 p.m., Sunday, on a call of multiple people shot in the park. Hundreds of people were gathered celebrating Easter Holiday when gunfire erupted.
According to the authorities, Yarbrough was discovered lying on the ground just outside her vehicle's passenger door. The 32-year-old's injuries reportedly proved to be fatal, and she was pronounced dead on the scene.
The police disclosed that five additional victims sustained gunshot wounds. The surviving victims include one adult and four children ranging from five to 17 years of age.
According to the statement, two kids were transported to the Children’s Hospital of Alabama by Birmingham Fire and Rescue. Other victims were transported to local area hospitals by private vehicles.
Five survivors are said to be in stable condition. The investigation revealed trouble ensued following an altercation amongst two groups of males, which led to a gunfire exchange.
Evidence collected indicates that the suspects fired over 30 rounds. Detectives have obtained witness accounts; however, additional witnesses are encouraged to come forward.
No arrests have been made following the incident, and police are reportedly offering a cash reward for any tips that lead to an arrest. Birmingham Police Sgt. Rod Mauldin was adamant that someone saw what happened on that day.
"This park was full of people, full of families, and we know people saw things," he said. Maudlin added that no matter how big or small the intel is, it is valuable to them.
Witnesses are urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777 if they have any information that can assist the police department with their investigation.
While the incident appeared to be random based on no link between the victims, another shooting incident at the Orange, California, business complex is the opposite.
According to CNN, the suspect in the mass shooting reportedly knew the victims. The shooting occurred recently whereby four people were killed, including a nine-year-old boy.
Orange Police Department spokesperson Lt. Jennifer Amat revealed that the suspect had professional and personal relationships with the victims. Amat also revealed that it was not a random act of violence.
She did not disclose the victims' identities at the time because they had not completed notifications of the next of kin. Upon the police arrival on the scene, they engaged in fire shots which left the suspect injured.
Identified as 44-year-old Aminadab Gaxiola Gonzalez, the suspect is at a local hospital in a critical but stable condition. A fifth victim, a woman, was also taken to the hospital, where she is also in the same condition as the shooter.
