Vanessa and the late basketball legend tied the knot in April 2001 in a lavish ceremony at Dana Point, California. According to reports, the lovebirds first crossed paths in November 1999. At the time, Vanessa was 17, while Kobe was 21.
Six months into their relationship, the pair got engaged. During their marriage, the couple welcomed four kids, Natalia, Giana, Bianka, and Capri. However, their relationship was plagued with a cheating scandal in July 2003.
Kobe was accused of assaulting a 19-year-old staff of a hotel. The late NBA star denied the allegations of assault but confessed that he cheated on his wife. The duo managed to rise above the predicament with the charges dropped.

However, they soon met another hurdle in December 2011 when Vanessa filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split. About two years after filing, the pair announced that they rekindled their marriage.
Unfortunately, their heartwarming romance came to an end on January 26, 2020, when Kobe, alongside their second daughter and seven others, lost their lives in a devastating helicopter crash in Calabasas, California.
In a candid interview with People Magazine, Vanessa opened up about her grief and how she has been trying to adapt to the life-altering event of losing her husband and daughter. The 38-year-old said:
"I can't say that I'm strong every day. I can't say that there aren't days when I feel like I can't survive to the next."
The mother-of-four revealed that amid the excruciating pain, she managed to push ahead for the sake of her and Kobe's remaining three daughters. She also admitted that the late Kobe and Gigi inspire to become better every day.
Vanessa has kept busy relaunching her late husband's non-profit, which aims to give female athletes equal opportunities. She named the charity the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation, honoring the father-daughter duo.
The wedding anniversary tribute comes after Vanessa notably won her case against the L.A. County Sheriff's Department for the unlawful distribution of the graphic images from the helicopter crash site.
A judge favored her decision to obtain the names of the deputies who took photos and shared them.
published the names on social media and sought unspecified damages from the Sheriff's department.
