On May 18, 2021, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) took to their Facebook account to give a press release about an innocent outing that turned tragic when it ended up with two women being killed.

According to the CHP, at 00:19 on Tuesday, a shooting occurred in the eastbound I-580 area at Seminary Avenue. When the officers arrived, they discovered that two different shootings had occurred.

The first shooting happened at the Seminary Avenue off-ramp on eastbound I-580. The second one followed shortly near Foothill Boulevard at 68th Avenue, with both incidents involving the same party bus.

The party bus, described as “large,” was transporting passengers who were celebrating a woman's 21st birthday. The vehicle was shot twice in Oakland, California, and it’s believed to have been intentional.

The birthday girl was one of the five people injured while two others died. The party bus, which was riddled with bullet holes, had its injured passengers taken to Oakland’s Highland Hospital for medical treatment.

One of the victims died on the party bus while the other one passed away at the hospital. At least seventy shots were fired at the bus when it was ambushed twice overnight.

Those who were hurt sustained varying degrees of injuries. Speaking to the East Bay Times, a relative of one of the people who got shot said the person was a young woman, 19, from Stockton.

NBC Bay Area said the stepmother of the 19-year-old said the victim and a group of women were just trying to have fun when they were attacked. The victim was a mother to a child who will be turning three on Saturday.

The birthday girl’s father said his 21-year-old daughter got injured in her leg but was stable. According to reports, the bus driver was able to drive to the Oakland Police Eastmont Substation after the shooting.

Detectives currently don’t have a suspect, and the CHP is working with the Oakland Police Department on the investigation. Sadly, this wasn’t the only shooting in recent weeks that took people’s lives.

On the morning of Mother’s Day, seven people were killed at the Canterbury Mobile Home Park, including a gunman. The gunman opened fire at a birthday party where friends and family were gathered to celebrate.

Last month, nine children under 18 were injured, and two of them had to remain in the hospital after a shooting that occurred over a weekend. The incident happened at a 12-year-old's birthday party in Louisiana.
