American former professional boxer Sugar Ray Leonard celebrated his son Jarrel Leonard's 37th birthday by sharing a rare throwback picture of them.

Sugar Ray Leonard's son, Jarrel Leonard, turned 37 on Monday, and the former professional boxer did well to wish him a happy birthday with a heartwarming post on Instagram.

In the post, Sugar Ray shared a picture of himself and Jarrel from back in the day. The rarely-seen throwback snap showed father and son sitting on a pavement.

Sugar Ray wore a white T-shirt, which he paired with black-and-white joggers. He also wore white socks and black Nike sneakers.

Jarrel wore a sky blue print T-shirt, which paired with a white knicker and white sneakers. Father and son posed similarly in the snapshot and smiled. In the post's caption, Sugar Ray wrote:

"🎉 Happy Birthday to my son @jarrel_giulio 🎉 This picture was almost 20 years ago, it seems like yesterday. Enjoy your birthday and family."

Sugar Ray's fellow celebrities, including LL Cool J's wife, Simone Smith, joined him in wishing his son a happy birthday. Jarrel also commented on the post and thanked his dad for the wishes.

Jarrel, who won $20,000 in an episode of "Celebrity Name Game" in 2016, is one of Sugar Ray's four kids. The former boxer shares Jarrel and his older brother, Ray Charles Leonard Jr., with his former first wife and high school sweetheart, Juanita Wilkinson.

His victory over Hagler in 1987, which came after a lengthy absence from the ring, was his proudest moment.

Sugar Ray was married to Wilkinson from 1980 to 1990 when their rocky relationship came to its end. In 1983, he tied the knot with Bernadette Robi and shares his son Daniel Ray Leonard and daughter Camille Leonard with her.

Sugar Ray was revered for his skills in the boxing ring. He was a ring artist and used those skills to his advantage and conquered many famous foes during his time as a fighter.

The iconic boxer won six world titles in five weight divisions in a career noted for his famous fights and how he fought and defeated his rivals. Sugar Ray had a raging rivalry with Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns, and Marvin Hagler.

These four men fought each other nine times between 1980 and 1989 in the middleweight or welterweight boxing divisions. These fights were remarkable in their separate ways and are regarded as some of the greatest bouts in boxing history.

Sugar Ray has memories from some of his fights with his rivals and tagged his victory over Hearns in 1981 as his defining moment as a boxer. He also said his victory over Hagler in 1987, which came after a lengthy absence from the ring, was his proudest moment.
