Edie Brickell Was Mesmerized by Paul Simon at First Sight — Inside Their Long-Lasting Marriage

Edie Brickell was allegedly love-struck to the point of forgetting her own lyrics when she first saw her husband Paul Simon in the 80s. Now with three kids of their own, take a look into the couple’s long-lasting romance!

“Love at first sight” might sound like something that only happens in the movies, but for singer Edie Brickell, this was exactly the case when she met her husband, Paul Simon.

Now, decades after that day, Brickell and Simon have created something of a great life for themselves and their three kids. Take a look into their 29-year-old marriage!

THEIR LOVE STORY

Brickell and Simon first met in 1988 on the set of “Saturday Night Live,” where she was performing with her group Edie Brickell & New Bohemians.

She spotted Simon standing in front of a camera from the stage and allegedly claimed to have forgotten her lyrics because she was so mesmerized by him.

Brickell explained that even though she had performed the song several times in clubs, Simon made her forget how the song went once she set her eyes on him

On May 30, 1992, Brickell and Simon tied the knot in an intimate, simple ceremony which the bride’s mother described as a simple exchange of gold bands.

THEIR KIDS

A few months after their wedding, Brickell and Simon became parents in December 1992 when they welcomed their son, Adrien Edward.

Three years later, the couple expanded their family when they welcomed their daughter Lulu in April 1995. Their last son, Gabriel Elijah, was born in May 1998.

While not much is known about the couple’s kids, Lulu has seemingly decided to follow in her parent’s footsteps as she is now fully pursuing a career in music.

But outside of her commitment to music, another thing Lulu will seemingly not get tired of is defending her parents if there is a need to.

In 2014, Brickell and Simon made headlines when they were arrested and taken to court following a domestic dispute between them at their Connecticut estate.

It was revealed that Simon had made the 911 call during his argument with Brickell. Though he said nothing on the phone, the police were prompted to show up.

On getting to the couple’s house, Brickell reportedly told them Simon had done something that broke her heart. They were both arrested thereafter.

But while the situation between them might have been a tad exaggerated, Lulu stepped into the situation, assuring fans that things were, in fact, not what they seemed.

She described the fight as atypical, adding that contrary to what the court and many believed, Simon and Brickell had no fear towards each other.

SIMON’S PAST MARRIAGES

Simon might have a loving wife by his side and kids who defend him, but the musician has not always had it easy in his love life.

Before his marriage to Brickell, he had been previously married twice, first to Peggy Harper with whom he welcomed a son. They were married from 1969 to 1975.

Following the end of his first marriage, Simon started a relationship with actress Carrie Fisher whom he later married in 1983.

Though it seemed as if they were meant for each other at first, Simon and Fisher soon found themselves stuck in an endless circle of a dysfunctional relationship.

Eleven months into their marriage, Simon and Fisher split and got divorced in 1984. However, due to the strong chemistry between them, they decided to give their love one more chance.

The couple started dating again about a year after their divorce. Though conventional, it seemed to work better for them than marriage.

Simon and Fisher dated for six years, which the actress later described as holding good memories for them. However, it was only a matter of time before the happy moments no longer mattered.

While visiting a spiritual healer during a trip to Brazil, Fisher reportedly had a vision where she felt pinned down by Simon’s controlling brain.

On returning from the trip, she broke up with the musician, only that this time it was for good. She would later date CAA agent Bryan Lourd and welcome a daughter together.

In December 2016, Fisher passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest while on a flight to Los Angeles. Simon shared his heartbreak, describing the actress as a wonderful and special girl.
