Nigella Lawson's Spouse Praised Her in a Message Hours before Dying — Inside Her Tragedies
Cancer has been very present in the life of TV personality and food writer Nigella Lawson as her first husband, mother, and sister succumbed to the disease.
Also known as the Domestic Goddess, Nigella Lawson has written several cookery books and participated in many cooking shows, including “Top Chef,” “MasterChef Australia,” and “The Taste.”
Unfortunately, Lawson’s life has not been a walk in the park as her second husband tried to damage her reputation and allegedly assaulted her. She’s also dealt with three early family deaths due to cancer.
NIGELLA LAWSON’S FIRST HUSBAND
One of them was her first husband, John Diamond. The former couple met in 1989 when they were both working at the Telegraph and hit it off right away. In 1992, they tied the knot in Venice, Italy.
Diamond and Nigella Lawson had two children, daughter Cosima and son Bruno. Unfortunately, Diamond was diagnosed with oral cancer in 1995 and passed away in 2001. He was 47.
According to Mirror, Diamond wrote down a final message for Lawson just before passing away to let her know he was proud of her. He wrote:
“How proud I am of you and what you have become. The great thing about us is that we have made us who we are.”
Diamond was so important in Lawson’s life that he has been credited as the person who helped her develop her brand and become the Domestic Goddess we know today.
He noticed how passionate and confident Lawson was when she talked about cooking, so he encouraged her to write about it. As a result, she published her first book, “How To Eat,” in 1998.
Lawson commemorated the 20th anniversary of “How To Eat” by posting a photo posing with Diamond at the book’s launch party. She wrote in the caption that the image made her feel both happy and sad, and she also wished she could be in Diamond’s arms.
MORE DEATHS TO CANCER
Unfortunately, John Diamond was not the only person close to her that died of cancer. Nigella Lawson’s mother, Vanessa Salmon, passed away in 1985 after being diagnosed with liver cancer. She was 48.
Lawson and Saatchi began dating about six months before Diamond died of cancer.
Apart from Salmon, one of Lawson’s sisters, Thomasina, died of breast cancer at 32 years of age in 1993. Lawson once admitted that she felt like a “traitor” when she turned 49 as she reached an older age than her mother.
The TV personality also admitted that the idea of complaining about getting older became “revolting” after so many loved ones died young.
FAILED SECOND MARRIAGE
In September 2003, two years after John Diamond passed away, Nigella Lawson and Charles Saatchi tied the knot. When their “tumultuous” marriage ended in 2013, Saatchi tried to damage her reputation.
He reportedly hired a publicist to reveal some private details of Lawson's life, including her issues with substance abuse. However, what attracted more attention was the affair accusation.
The publicist reported that Lawson and Saatchi began dating about six months before Diamond died of cancer. It is important to point out that Diamond and Saatchi were close friends.
However, it was later reported that Diamond himself authorized Lawson and Saatchi’s relationship when he knew he would die and even encouraged her to date Saatchi.
Apart from that, a photo showing Saatchi physically assaulting Lawson emerged in 2013, but he claimed she set him up. Lawson said in court that he had previously engaged in violence and “intimate terrorism” against her.
Nowadays, it is unclear if Nigella Lawson is dating someone. She’s focused on sharing recipes with her over 2.5 million Instagram followers and promoting her latest book, “Cook, Eat, Repeat.” Way to go!
