Young Man Leaves His Pregnant Girlfriend, His Parents Teach Him a Lesson – Story of the Day
A young man refuses to take responsibility for the baby when his girlfriend announces their pregnancy, but his parents show him that life is all about choices.
“I can’t believe this is happening,” Lance said, shocked. Molly had just shown him the pregnancy test and had tears running down her face. They were going to become parents, but he was just 21 years old, while Molly was 19.
“I don’t know, this wasn’t planned,” Molly started but stopped when Lance laughed scornfully.
“Of course it wasn’t planned! Who wants a baby in their early 20s? Molly, we can’t do this,” he exclaimed.

“I know we’re young, but lots of people have done it before. We could manage,” she said.
“It’s not that we can't, Molly. It’s that I don’t want to become a father just yet,” Lance continued. “I’m young. I’m in college. I want to travel the world. I want to see people. This is not part of my plans.”
“I don’t know what to say, Lance. This is happening. I’m pregnant. I can’t change that,” Molly added, not knowing what else to say.

“You can change it. There are many options now. We don’t have to become parents. You don’t even have to be pregnant for long,” Lance said, trying to convince Molly of the most obvious solution to their problem.
“NO! Absolutely not! I will not do that to my baby. I can’t believe you want that!” she yelled and sobbed at Lance’s suggestion.
“It’s the best option for us! I don’t want to get married. I don’t want the responsibility, and you are starting college in the fall. Do you want to be a single mom? Because I’m not going to be in that baby’s life! Period!” Lance yelled.

“You can’t do this to us. You’re just as responsible as I am for this pregnancy. You have to step up,” Molly said through sobs.
“I don’t. I get to walk away. The only other option left is for you to give that baby up for adoption. It’s not the ideal solution, but it’s better than nothing,” Lance continued.
“I don’t know if I could give my baby up,” she whispered.
“Look, Molly. You can’t have a baby. Your parents are insanely religious. They won’t support you because you’re not married, and I’m definitely not going to get married at our age. I care about you, but this is just too much right now,” Lance added, trying to convince her.

“You’re so cruel to me,” Molly cried.
“Reality is even crueler. Babies are expensive and time-consuming. You won’t be able to go to college. You’ll be stuck in a minimum wage job forever. Is that what you want for this baby?” he continued.
“No…” she agreed.
“I’m not evil. Suppose you don’t want to get rid of it, ok. But adoption is the only other option. Keeping it will ruin your life and mine,” Lance finished, thinking he had convinced Molly.

Molly didn’t have any more words. Lance seemed somewhat placated now until she spoke up. “No. I’m not going to give this baby up. It’s a gift,” she said definitively.
“Then, I have no choice. You will never see me again. Goodbye,” Lance said and walked out, leaving Molly crying in her living room.
In one way, Lance was right. Molly’s parents were distraught when she told them about her pregnancy. They threw her out of the house and cut off all financial support. She had nowhere to go but thought that maybe Lance’s parents could help a bit.

“Hey, Molly. What are you doing here?” Lance’s father, Mr. Edward Huber, said as he answered the door.
“Mr. Huber, I have something to tell you. Can I come in?” Molly said.
“Of course! Come in. Sit down. Is everything ok?” he said as Lance’s mother, Colette, appeared in the living room.
“Oh hey, Molly. Where’s Lance?” she asked.
“He’s not here, honey. Molly came alone and has something to tell us. Go on, dear,” Mr. Huber told her.

“Well…It’s hard to begin,” Molly started. She told them about the pregnancy, what Lance had said, and how her parents had thrown her out. They were both shocked at first. Mr. Huber couldn’t believe his son’s actions.
“I can’t believe Lance would say that,” Mrs. Huber cried. Mr. Huber was disappointed in his son, but this kid was his grandchild. They would take care of it.
“Don’t worry, Molly. You have our full support through this. This baby is a blessing, and no one will do any harm to it,” Mr. Huber finally said. Molly sobbed and thanked them for their generosity.

Mrs. Huber was unsure because her husband’s health was not the best, and a baby was a huge responsibility. But maybe, they could talk Lance into stepping up for his child. Unfortunately, they were wrong.
When Lance discovered that Molly was living at his parents’ house, he yelled at them and promised never to step foot in their house ever again.
“YOU ARE NOT MY SON ANYMORE!” Mr. Huber yelled as Lance left their house. The fight had taken a toll on the older man. His blood pressure went up, but he went to bed after taking his medication, thinking it would be alright later.

However, Mr. Huber was taken to the hospital a few days later and passed away shortly after. They were all distressed by the news, especially Lance.
“Honey, don’t worry. Your father knew that you loved him. Everything is going to be alright,” his mother comforted him.
“I was such an idiot. How could I yell at my father?” Lance cried to Mrs. Huber.
“We all make mistakes, baby. But you have a chance to make things right. Your father wanted you to step up for Molly. Will you?” Mrs. Huber asked.

“Definitely,” Lance answered without hesitation. His father's passing had been the biggest wake-up call in the world. “I don’t know why I was so angry with Molly. Dad taught me that family is everything, and I’m going to be just like him.”
Lance apologized to Molly and was there through the rest of the pregnancy. He cried when their child was born and couldn’t believe he almost walked away from this.
What can we learn from this story?
1. Do the right thing before it’s too late. Lance lost his father before Mr. Huber could see him owning up to his mistakes and taking responsibility for the baby.
2. You can’t walk away from a pregnancy. Sometimes, babies happen by accident, but they are a blessing.
