TRAGIC CRASH

In September 2008, Blink-182 drummer Barker was involved in a tragic crash involving a Learjet that was taking him and some friends to California. The plane crashed on take-off in Columbia, South California, and claimed the lives of four individuals.

Barker’s security guard and assistant, alongside the plane’s two pilots, lost their lives in the crash, but the 45-year-old and his close pal, the late Adam Goldstein, who performed under the name DJ AM were the only survivors of the dark day.

The father of two recalled being on fire after stepping out of the jet into the part that held the plane’s fuel. Covered in the highly flammable substance, he was quickly engulfed in flames.

A few moments after stepping out of the plane, the plane exploded, but what followed was a few months of suffering and pain for the famous musician.

BARKER ASKED HIS FRIENDS TO KILL HIM

Following the crash, which left him with 65 percent body burns, Barker spent four months in various burn centers and was said to have undergone about 27 surgeries to help fix him up.

The pain became too much for Barker to bear, and he noted that he was willing to go the extra mile. According to reports, Barker called a few of his friends, offering to give them a million dollars if they could take his life.

The 45-year-old later explained that it was not a mere plea. Instead, he was desperate to end his suffering as the pain had left him depressed and in a dark mental space.

As he recalled in an interview, doctors had to take Barker’s phone from him to stop him from making those calls. Barker resolved never to fly again in his pain and grief as he had bad memories and fear from his previous experience.

TOURING BY BOAT

After his recovery, Barker did not let his near-death experience keep him from his passion as he linked up with his band members on their tour but kept to his word and refused to fly.

To resolve his fear of flying, Barker traveled for his band’s UK tour by boat. Although he spent ten days on the sea, he felt more comfortable and safe. The father of two noted that his life after the crash was focused on leaving beyond his fears.

NO MORE FEARS

More than a decade after the crash, the rock star became ready to confront his fears and remarked that he was no longer scared of dying. After realizing that there are other things that could happen to him, asides from dying in a plane, Barker decided to conquer his fear.

Before his crash, he already had a phobia of flying. But he noted that he was willing to let go of his fear for the sake of his children, who he said helped him get through his darkness and see the light again.

After his recovery, Barker bravely returned to life as normal. He learned to walk and play drums again and also focused his energy on making music. Also, the 45-year-old recently released his well brand.

FIRST FLIGHT IN OVER A DECADE

Finally, Barker took the courageous move of boarding a flight for the first time in 13 years. He had his girlfriend Kourtney, along with Kris Jenner and Corey Gamble, by his side. Although he was said to have looked hesitant, the father of two conquered his fear.

The drummer boarded Kylie’s private jet for a trip to Mexico, and according to reports, it was a successful flight and, hopefully, one that would spell better memories for the 45-year-old.
