Many fans remember Whitney Houston as an incredible singer, but not many fans recall that the late singer was a passionate lover whose soft heart and love for former husband was repaid by years of abuse and battering.

In the early 90s, when Houston’s career was rising, and she was gaining global attention, her then-husband, Bobby Brown, had sunk into a money-draining drug abuse lifestyle.

His lifestyle not only had its effect on him but also on his relationship with his famous wife. Sources close to the former couple revealed that Houston was a supportive lover despite Brown’s red flag.

According to reports, the late singer showed her love and support for the "Bad Boy" singer when she disguised herself to pay his ransom after a murderous gangster held him captive for his drug debt.

The story was captured in a book written by ex-convict David Collins, who was a member of the New York gang – known as The Preacher that kidnapped Houston’s husband, Brown.

Brown was said to have owed $25k in drug debt and was later handed over to the notorious gang who then kidnapped him and, after a series of battering, asked him to call his diva wife for a ransom of $400k.

In 2003, Brown was charged with misdemeanor battery related to alleged domestic violence.

The love-driven “Bodyguard” star was said to have disguised herself in a wig and glasses and secretly brought the ransom to rescue her wayward husband from the Preachers' grip.

The Preachers continued their drug-related raids, torturing victims who had no money to pay and cutting off their body parts before killing them in a gruesome fashion.

The group was headed by Clarence Heatley, and after their popularity, the gang became a target of law agencies who later arrested principal members of the group, including Heatley.

As for Houston, life with Brown after the touching 1993 incident did not get better as the singer was said to have been subjected to various abuse that included battering. In 2003, Brown was charged with misdemeanor battery related to alleged domestic violence.

During their 15 years together, the “I Look To You” singer visited rehab three times, with most close friends calling their union a living hell. Their union was marred by their mutual drug abuse problems.

After their divorce, the former couple fought over the custody of their daughter Bobbi Kristina who died in 2015, a few years after her mom died from drug-related issues.
