Inside Shari Headley AKA Lisa of ‘Coming 2 America’ & Christopher ‘Play’ Martin’s Relationship & Co-parenting

American actress Shari Headley was married to actor and rapper Christopher Martin for two years. Find out about their relationship and how they are co-parenting their son.

American actress Shari Headley is famous for playing Lisa McDowell in "Coming to America" and its 2021 sequel "Coming 2 America."

Besides those movies, she has also starred in "The Preacher's Wife," and "Johnson Family Vacation." She also appeared regularly in the ABC daytime soap opera "All My Children" from 1991 to 1994 and held other notable television roles.

Headley is now 58 years and has experienced so many changes since starring in "Coming to America" in 1988. However, despite these changes, she has hardly aged and remains a beautiful and elegant woman.

In May 1993, the actress, who made her acting debut on "The Cosby Show," tied the knot with actor and rapper Christopher Martin, better known as "Play" from the hip-hop duo Kid N' Play.

However, their marriage lasted for just two years as they divorced in June 1995. However, the former couple welcomed a son while they were married.

In 2001, two Long Island judges ordered Martin to resume paying child support he owes for his and Headley's then-seven-year-old son.

At the time, the rapper owed $42,000 in back payments and was ordered to pay the $159 a week he was supposed to be paying since a 1996 ruling.

He feels his agenda or motive for getting married at the time was not the way it should be when entering into a relationship or marriage.

Since Headley and Martin's divorce, neither of them has ever remarried. However, they have previously opened up about their marriage.

While speaking to Fierceforblackwomen.com, Headley bared her thoughts on her divorce from Martin and their son. She said:

"I'm very blessed that the union produced my beautiful son. That's all I can really say. I'm happy with that. I haven't seen or heard from him in a very long time."

Headley also admitted that she chose to get divorced. Meanwhile, Martin also discussed his failed marriage to Headley in a chat with DJ Vlad.

Reflecting on their divorce, Martin said he and Headley were best friends before their marriage, and when he felt the need to settle down, he did not think of a better person to marry than her.

Looking back, he feels his agenda or motive for getting married at the time was not the way it should be when entering into a relationship or marriage. However, Martin expressed pride in himself for never cheating on Headley but maintained their union happened too soon.

Despite her broken marriage and refusal to remarry, Headley remains a beautiful woman and has come into her own.

When asked how she has managed to maintain her beauty, she said it was important for one to let their beauty shine and grow their inner beauty by being happy for others and being in the company of positive people. She is also fond of her son and said she is proud of him.
