Macaulay Culkin became a household name in the '90s when he featured in the comedy film "Home Alone," playing a young boy who was forgotten by his family when they went to Paris on a family vacation.

Culkin became a successful child actor while very young. Unfortunately, his career took a hit when his parents Patricia and Kit, started fighting over who would manage Culkin's fortune, which at the time was estimated to be between 17 million and 50 million dollars.

This back and forth forced Culkin into a stressful phase, during which he made some bad choices and got himself into drugs. After years of addiction, he made a resolve and got his life back on track.

At 28, however, Culkin suffered a loss he will never recover from - the loss of his older sister. Dakota was a year older than Culkin and the third of eight children. The 29-year-old was hit by a car when she stepped off the curb and onto the road in Los Angeles.

She had been rushed to UCLA hospital but succumbed to head trauma, which devastated her family. Emily Gerson, who managed the Macauley siblings, reported the family as being heartbroken by the loss.

Culkin met and fell in love with actress Brenda Song and earlier this year, they welcomed a bouncing baby boy.

Of the Macauley children, six - Culkin, Rory, Christian, Queen, Kieran, and Shane - have had roles in various movies. Only Dakota managed to stay out of the limelight. She was working as an art production assistant when she met her death.

The night she met her untimely death, Culkin recalls the conversation he had with her. He remembers that she'd had a roommate, and that night they had just watched one of Culkin's movies, "Party Monster."

She told Culkin that she and her roommate wanted to congratulate him on his role in the movie. Culkin had thanked her and asked her to go to bed. He remembered of the fateful night in 2008:

“I mean, look, I had that last conversation with her, and she told me to stay focused and enthused.”

But before she did, she went out to buy some cigarettes. That's when she got hit. His sister loved Budweiser, and every anniversary of her death, Culkin takes out a few bottles and drinks up to honor her, to mourn her.

Given his not-so-good past with alcohol, he says he wouldn't be getting too much into it, just a few drinks to celebrate his sister.

When filming "Changeland" in Thailand in 2019, Culkin met and fell in love with actress Brenda Song. Earlier this year, they welcomed a bouncing baby boy.

And in a beautiful gesture to honor the memory of his late sister, the two love birds named their new baby Dakota after her.
