When Michelle Aslin and Kayley Clarke learned that they were pregnant around the same time, the close cousins were overjoyed.

They probably hoped that their kids would turn out to be just as close, but as soon as they gave birth, problems started to occur.

REGGIE

Michelle gave birth to a baby boy, Reggie, on September 1, 2016. Unfortunately, he was born with half a heart and diagnosed with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, which prevents the heart from properly functioning.

Reggie was taken as soon as he was born and was only reunited with his mother eight hours later. Michelle shared:

“We were told if they survived, they wouldn’t be able to walk, talk, or go to mainstream school, and they would be exhausted all the time. But we knew we had to give them a fighting chance.”

On his third night, the nurse allowed Michelle to bathe her son and dress him to at least experience such should Reggie not survive.

HONEY ROSE

On December 19, 2016, Kayley gave birth to a baby girl, Honey Rose, who was diagnosed with the same condition at a severe level. Kayley shared:

“When Honey Rose was born, the doctor said everything looked even worse than expected, so she wouldn’t make it through surgery, and we’d only have about 24 hours with her. I was just numb.”

Fortunately, Honey Rose fought to live and showed strength, allowing her to be readmitted to the hospital. After tests were conducted, it showed that she could withstand surgery.

Honey Rose underwent surgery on Boxing Day for 11 hours but returned to intensive care. Doctors and nurses surrounded her, hoping for the best.

Even her surgeon delayed a flight to the Middle East to make sure she was stable. Fortunately, Honey Rose made it home after four weeks.

Before turning one, Reggie and Honey Rose had their second heart ops. Currently, Reggie, now five, and Honey Rose, four, are about to start school.

“They are so close we call them our heart twins. They’re looking forward to starting school but are gutted they aren’t going to the same one,” Michelle said.

Michelle further shared that the two grabbed each other after the lockdown was lifted and would not let go. Definitely, they will grow up close to each other’s hearts.

Recently, another sweet story of survival surfaced on the internet as Stacey Astley’s baby survived after she experienced three miscarriages.

According to the proud mom, she experienced complications during her pregnancy, but at her five-month scan, the face of a guardian angel appeared.
