Mother Reunites with Late Daughter via VR: 'Mommy, You Can See That I'm Not Hurting Anymore'
After a mother lost her child, she didn't think she would ever experience the joy of seeing her again. However, technology made it possible and allowed for an unforgettable virtual reunion.
In 2020, a Seoul, South Korea mother experienced a special moment with her deceased daughter. Jang Ji-sung's seven-year-old passed away after she battled a rare disease. Ji-sung was heartbroken that she would never see her girl again.
However, the mother was granted a unique reunion. As part of an MBC documentary titled "I Met You," she could "see" Nayeon via virtual reality. The mother's reaction was touching.

THE DREAM SHE WANTED
Wearing a VR headset, Ji-sung walked towards her little girl. She reached out for her, and the little girl reassured her mother. She told her that she was in a better place. Ji-sung expressed:
"I met Nayeon, who called me with a smile, for a very short time, but it's a very happy time. I think I've had the dream I've always wanted."

THE SPECIAL VR EXPERIENCE
The team worked on the project for months, and they were able to recreate Nayeon's face, body, and voice. The mother who lost her child in 2016 could not believe how realistic the experience was and praised the VR technology.
In the clip, the little girl said: "Mom, where have you been? Did you think about me?" The mother told her child that she thought about her and missed her a lot.

COMFORT FOR OTHERS
The pair held hands as the tears streamed down Ji-sung's face. The rest of their family witnessed the encounter, and the father, brother, and sister were also overcome with emotion. The mother agreed to be part of the documentary for a purpose.
She hoped other parents who also lost someone special would find some comfort after seeing the encounter. The mother held a birthday party with Nayeon as an honored guest as part of the reunion.

HOPES PEOPLE WILL REMEMBER HER
There were candles and a birthday cake in their virtual reality. The mother and her child also sang a song. Toward the end of the video, the mother tucked her little girl into bed one last time.
They said their goodbyes, and then the screen became green again. Ji-sung hoped that many people would remember her daughter after watching the documentary.

The video touched netizens, and many expressed they were glad the mom was given some closure after her child's death. One user wrote: It made me cry even more when she said 'Mom, goodbye.'"
