NFL wide receiver Stefon Diggs is facing criminal charges after allegedly assaulting a woman at his home in Dedham on December 2, 2025.

The incident, which reportedly stemmed from a dispute over payment of certain services, has drawn widespread attention due to Diggs' high profile, both on the field and for his headline-making relationship with Grammy-winning artist Cardi B.

Serious Charges and a Critical Court Date

According to a police report obtained by People and reported on December 30, the New England Patriots player has been accused of slapping and choking a woman inside his $2.5 million home in Dedham, located just 15 miles outside Boston.

The woman involved claimed the altercation began after she requested payment for her work as his private chef. Diggs, 32, is now facing a felony charge of strangulation and a misdemeanor count of assault.

His girlfriend, Cardi B, was not present at the time and is not connected to the incident in any way.

Diggs is scheduled to be arraigned on January 23, 2026. The timing is especially notable as it falls just two days before the AFC Championship Game — a critical matchup the Patriots could be part of if they advance in the playoffs.

Details of the Alleged Altercation

The woman reported the incident to authorities on December 16. In her statement, she claimed she had been working with Diggs for some time but decided to quit her position on December 2 and wanted payment that he still owed her.

According to her account, the NFL star entered her bedroom following a heated text exchange regarding the unpaid wages. She told police that their conversation "apparently angered" him and that things escalated quickly.

She purported that Diggs slapped her across the face, then she pushed him away. He allegedly responded by wrapping the crook of his elbow around her neck in an attempt to choke her.

The woman reportedly struggled to breathe and feared she might pass out, stating that the tighter she fought, the tighter his grip became. She also claimed he eventually threw her onto the bed and said, "Thought so," before leaving the room.

Initially, she was hesitant to press charges. However, she apparently changed her mind several days later and officially moved forward with the allegations on December 23.

Denial from Diggs' Legal Team

Diggs' attorney, David Meier, firmly denied the accusations in a statement to People, calling them completely false.

"They are unsubstantiated, uncorroborated, and were never investigated — because they did not occur," Meier said. "The timing and motivation for making the allegations is crystal clear: they are the direct result of an employee-employer financial dispute that was not resolved to the employee's satisfaction."

The wide receiver is currently in his first year of a three-year, $69 million contract with the Patriots. The team issued a brief statement acknowledging the situation and confirmed they have been fully briefed on the allegations.

"We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary," the team said. They declined to comment further.

The NFL has also been informed and is monitoring the investigation.

Cardi B Speaks Out as Pressure Mounts Over Relationship

The allegations surfaced just one day after Cardi B uploaded a raw and emotional video on X, breaking her silence on the backlash she's been receiving from fans over her relationship with the NFL star.

The rapper, visibly frustrated, told followers they had been too cruel toward her and begged them to ease up. "I can't change [expletive]. I can't go back in time," she said. "I already had a baby. Y'all want me to put my baby back in my [expletive]?"

She and Diggs welcomed a baby boy together on November 4.

In the video, she responded to online critics questioning her choices, asking sarcastically if fans expected her to leave Diggs and date their men instead. She made it clear that there's no going back and that her focus now is moving forward.

The rapper also reminded fans that she has been preparing for her next tour and that she needs their support more than ever. Despite the turmoil surrounding her personal life, she urged everyone to enjoy themselves at her upcoming shows.

The "WAP" singer is already a mother to three other children — Kulture Kiari, Wave Set, and Blossom Belle Cephus — with ex-husband Offset, whose real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus.

Diggs, meanwhile, has two publicly acknowledged children: Nova and Charlee Diggs. However, it has been alleged that he may have fathered more.
