In 2019, a Massachusetts teacher made a special promise to a student and his mother. The mom had been fighting cancer for years and worried about what would happen to her son, who had Down syndrome, after her passing.

Teacher Kerry Bremer instantly bonded with Jake Manning, who was 14 years old at the time. Jean was a single mother, and Bremer developed a relationship with her via Jake. They spent many weekends together and became close.

THE TEACHER MADE A VOW

Bremer saw her friend's condition deteriorate and wondered what would happen to Jake when she passed away. She didn't want the youngster to feel lost and alone, so she made a vow to Jean.

Bremer promised to take care of him when the time came. The teacher phoned Jean and stated:

"I could really be overstepping the boundaries here, but I just want to let you know that if you need a backup plan ... my family is willing to offer guardianship."

HIS MOM PASSED AWAY

Jean was overwhelmed and thankful for the offer. She could sleep soundly with the knowledge her son would be raised by a family who loved him. When Jean passed away, her son and the Bremer family were heartbroken.

Teacher Bremer shared:

"I'm terribly sad that Jake doesn't have his mom to be with him for the rest of his life. But I'm very, very grateful that she trusted us to take him and be with him and share our home with him."

FELL IN LOVE WITH HIM

Thankfully his transition into the family was effortless. He had spent years getting to know them and was comfortable in their home. The youngster is comforted by knowing that his mother is in heaven and calls her his "Queen Angel Mom."

Jake is a loveable child, and his adoptive parents shared they couldn't help but fall in love with him. The Bremer family also created a GoFundMe page to raise money for Jake's future expenses. Thousands of dollars were donated to support him.

THE ONLINE REACTION

Bremer adores her new son and expressed: "He didn't talk that much, but when he did talk and said something, you were like, 'Oh my gosh, you know that? How do you know all of this?'" His story also touched netizens.

Many applauded the teacher's kindness and willingness to adopt. A commenter said: "It's good to hear that there are still teachers who care." Another added: "God Bless that teacher. She's a sweet soul." While Jake will always miss his mom, he is happy with his forever home.
