LaRoyce Hawkins has played police officer Kevin Atwood on "Chicago P.D" for all nine seasons after the role originated in NBC's "Chicago Fire," which he continued to appear in.

Hawkins is now thinking about his character's future and whether he is ready to get a promotion and join Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) and Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) as detectives within Intelligence.

Currently, Atwater is a police officer with two other characters, Adam Ruzek (Patrick Flueger) and Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati), who could be promoted to detective.

While talking to a CinemaBlend reporter, Hawkins said, "honestly, yes," he felt Atwater was ready to step up and become a detective. He also has a few good reasons why Atwater should be moved up in ranks.

Hawkins believes that without a new position or opportunity, Atwater will feel that nothing adds value or gives him a reason to continue his relationship with law enforcement. Hawkins elaborated:

"Based off what he's been through,... without the opportunity to really help more people in a specific way, he'd probably rather take his energies elsewhere.

Atwater intends to help his community, so Hawkins feels if he can not "protect and serve at a high level in one direction," he might try his best to find another way to help his community.

During season 8, Atwater had trouble with his girlfriend Celeste and went through a stressful case with a C.I.. So it would be reasonable that Atwater would feel he needs a win as he has made sacrifices for his job and has moved in ranks in the department for nearly ten years.

Although there is no guarantee that any of the characters will become detectives, the show's stars all agreed that if one of the officers gets promoted, it should be Atwater.

Expect Squerciati as she explained to CinemaBlend that Flueger's Ruzek would be the first officer to be promoted as he was the first in, and Hawkins's Atwater would be next in line for the promotion.

Only time will tell whether any of the three police officers will see their hard work paid off and perhaps get a promotion. "Chicago P.D." is currently on season 9 but is scheduled to release season 10 later this year.
