Severely Ill Woman Learns Her Surgeon is Her Husband's Ex-Wife He Heartlessly Left 10 Years Ago – Story of the Day
Sarah had all the best in life until her health started to deteriorate. When she needed emergency surgery, she learned that the person who was about to do it was her husband's ex-wife whom he painfully abandoned ten years prior.
Sarah and Connor loved each other dearly. They lived life happily and raised their darling daughter together. However, one day, Sarah started to feel ill, and Connor had to rush her to the hospital.
While they were there, the doctors diagnosed her with a rare stomach illness. "I'm sorry, Sarah, but there's no cure for this illness just yet. We will give you maintenance medicine, but there's no guarantee it will work," the doctor said.
The doctor also told her that her condition could worsen, and if it did, she'd need a complicated surgery.
Unfortunately for Sarah, the maintenance medicine could only do so much. One day, she was reporting to her bosses when she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her abdomen. Her boss, Gerald, called for an ambulance and informed her husband that she was on the way to the hospital.
Connor immediately picked up their eight-year-old from school and rushed to the hospital. Gerald felt responsible for what had happened, so he followed to the hospital as well.
They all arrived at the hospital in a span of minutes. Connor gave Sarah a kiss on the forehead, assuring her that everything would be okay. There, a nurse yelled for a certain Doctor Hamilton.
"You need surgery as soon as possible or else an infection might happen," she told Sarah as she lay on a hospital bed. Meanwhile, Connor and Sarah looked at each other in horror, not because of the surgery that was bound to happen, but the name of the doctor they mentioned.
"Do you have any other surgeon? Doctor Hamilton might not be willing to do the operation," Connor said. He knew that the surgeon they were referring to was his ex-wife, Marian Hamilton.
Marian and Connor were together for eight years when he called it quits. He fell out of love, and it was a sad reality he decided to act upon.
So one day, ten years ago, he left their house, leaving a note to Marian saying he wanted a divorce. Marian did not take this lightly, falling into a deep depression that was hard to recover from. In fact, she contemplated taking her life more than once.
Desperate to try and fix her broken family, she'd drive to Sarah and Connor's new place to try and talk to them. She threatened them with a lawsuit, but they did the same to her. In the end, a restraining order was granted against Marian and she stopped bothering them for good.
One way or another, Marian overcame the most difficult time in her life through the help of her profession. She drowned herself in work, focusing on her passion for saving people's lives. Although it seemed tough, the day Sarah was wheeled in was just another day in the office for Marian.
"She needs the surgery now, or she might die. I'm ready to do it, trust me!" Marian said before putting on her surgery gear. Marian and Connor locked eyes before the operating room doors slammed shut.
The operation lasted for seven hours. In those seven hours, Connor paced back and forth in the hospital hallway, thinking the worst. After everything they've been through with Marian, he thought she was capable of committing medical malpractice just to get back at him.
After the operation finished, Marian exited the room and approached Connor, who was trying to calm his daughter down.
"Your daughter?" she asked. When Connor nodded, she smiled.
"I also wanted to have a daughter... I thought I'd have one, actually. There was a person I thought I'd spend the rest of my life with who abandoned me with just a note," she started to say.
At that point, Connor braced himself for what Marian had to say. Before she could say anything, he ordered his daughter to buy candy from the vending machine.
"I had a chance to take revenge on you and your family today, but I did not. I realized I'm way above you on that, and I've finally found something worth doing. I was not about to ruin that for revenge," Marian said, looking Connor in the eye. He looked relieved.
"Your wife should be conscious in about 30 minutes. The operation was a success. Congratulations. In the meantime, I'll celebrate yet another successful operation alone. As I have been these past ten years because of you," she said before walking straight past him.
As she was about to exit the hospital, Gerald suddenly caught up with her. "Hi Doctor Hamilton, how are you? I just wanted to ask how the operation went," he said.
Marian responded politely, telling him that the operation was a success and that Sarah would be awake in a couple of minutes. While she was talking, Gerald couldn't help but stare at her hazel brown eyes. He was mesmerized.
After a while, they started talking about things other than the operation, and they both realized they were both attracted to one another. "Sorry for taking some of your time, Doctor Hamilton. I won't keep you any longer, I just have one last question," Gerald said.
"What is it?" she asked.
"Would you like to go to dinner with me one time?" Marian smiled at the question.
A couple of years later, Marian welcomed twin girls with Gerald. "This is more than what I could ever have dreamed of," she said to herself as she carried the two girls for the first time.
On a bittersweet day in her life years ago, she had to come face-to-face with the man who broke her heart into pieces, which led to her meeting the man who would show her what true love meant.
What can we learn from this story?
- We don't have to hurt the people who hurt us. Like Marian, it is possible to take the high road and not seek revenge no matter how badly we've been hurt.
- Life always gets better. While it took a while for Marian to find her true love, she was able to start anew and have her own family even when it seemed impossible for her to do so.
