Burke and Matthew's love story began in 2007. However, they first met in 2006 through Joey Lawrence, Matthew's older brother, who competed in the third season of "Dancing with the Stars." The news of their relationship broke the internet shortly after they started dating.
The pair were spotted at Koi in Los Angeles, holding hands. They were also later seen snuggling in a VIP booth before dancing. Burke appeared to be very happy, and her happiness was confirmed by her close friend, who said:
"It's early days, but I don't think I've ever seen Cheryl this happy."

Happiness was not the only thing Burke got from the relationship; the dancer also received a ton of support from her partner. During an interview with People, Burke noted that Matthew was very supportive, always tried to keep in touch, and strived to make sure everything was okay.
Matthew's support for his lady went as far as spending a summer on the road with Burke during one of her dancing tours. Overall, it was a relationship where the pair made sacrifices for each other. Sadly, the romance was short-lived, and they finally broke up in 2008.
BURKE AND MATTHEW'S REUNION
In 2017, Burke and Matthew met again and gave themselves a second chance at love. They had spent a decade apart, but the spark between them never faded. An insider confirmed that the dancer was "really happy" to be back with Matthew.
Burke also made sure to share the development with her social media fans. She took to Instagram to share a picture of her and the actor posing with a funny filter. Alongside the snapshot, the model added the caption:
"#reunitedanditfeelssogood @themattlawrence."
The couple was delighted to be together and made up for their time apart. Burke and Matthew spent quality time with each other, making sure to document the amazing moments and share them on social media. In July 2017, the duo went on vacation in Grenada, and Burke updated her fans.
In one of the snaps shared on Instagram, the television host was seen with her man under a waterfall. In the caption, she revealed that she was having an "adventure of a lifetime."
BURKE AND MATTHEW'S ENGAGEMENT
On May 4, 2018, Matthew proposed to Burke on her birthday, during a vacation trip to Laguna Beach, California. The excited dancer posted emotional pictures on Instagram announcing the engagement and showing off her diamond ring. She included the caption:
"OMG! So far so good for 34!💍 #amilliontimesyes #imengaged #herecomesthebride."
Before Burke got engaged, she shared her thoughts about getting married and having children. The model confessed that she was not the kind of lady with a specific age to get married or have children. According to Burke, she was fine with whatever age, and it felt good.
So, the television host was okay with getting engaged at 34. Getting married to Matthew was something she had envisioned from the onset of their relationship in 2007. But when they broke up, she regretted it. Burke explained:
"If I had any regret in life, it would be the end of our relationship. When we first dated, we were both young and immature, and I was so new to this world. Now we are both adults and feel balanced."
To Burke, Matthew was a normal and great guy. The actor was someone she would love to spend the rest of her life with, and they made it happen. Burke was happy to have Matthew back in her corner. She said:
"It felt like the [time passed] didn't happen. I just felt so comfortable."

DETAILS ABOUT THEIR SPLIT
Recently, Burke and Matthew have been in the news for the wrong reasons. Late last month, the news of the couple's divorce broke the internet. It was revealed that Burke filed for divorce in a Los Angeles courthouse.
According to the documents, the pair had been separated since January 7. Also, the reason for the split was cited as irreconcilable differences. While many were in disbelief, Burke confirmed the news via an Instagram post.
One week after the announcement, Burke shared a montage of pictures of herself at her wedding venue. She revealed that she was taking time to focus inwards, reflect, and try to feel her feelings.
TOUGH TIMES IN BURKE AND MATTHEW'S RELATIONSHIP
Although the reason for Burke and Matthew's split remains unknown, the pair's relationship experienced difficult times. Firstly, the couple had to deal with Burke's tough sobriety journey.
The television host struggled with alcoholism and quit in 2018. Her father's death and engagement fueled her decision to become sober. It was a difficult time for Burke, but she had the support of Matthew. Burke noted that the actor was her rock, adding that she did not know where she would be without him.
During the coronavirus pandemic, Matthew and Burke's relationship faced another difficult test in 2020. The couple had tied the knot a year before and had to stay in self-isolation for a while. Burke told Us Weekly that:
"The first year has been great. I mean, that has been like, it's tested us for sure."
However, the couple always relied on constant communication as the key to a successful marriage. During an interview, Matthew disclosed:
"When you stop that communication and when you don't try every day is when things start to slowly fall apart. I think that's really important."
It's sad to see that constant communication could not prevent the couple's marriage from falling apart. Fans have wished Burke and Matthew well, hoping that they find happiness in the future.
