Alison and Sandra live together as mother and daughter. They had recently moved to a new house and had been enjoying their space until a stranger knocked on Sandra's door and claimed that the house was hers. Shocked at this claim, a series of events that leads to growth for everyone follow the three ladies.

Alison was an 11-year-old girl living with her mother, Sandra. She was a happy little girl who enjoyed swimming, playing the piano, and having movie nights with her mom. Sandra was a single, busy professional who was great at her job. She loved spending time with her daughter and worked to keep the balance.

But one day, Sandra received a call from work long after business hours had ended. "Sandra, we need you in the office in the next 15 minutes," her manager said.

"I can't leave my daughter here by herself," Sandra said. "It's way too late."

"I'm sorry, Sandra, but you don't have a choice," he replied.

"Baby, mommy needs to rush to work. Please keep the door locked and watch some cartoons," Sandra said. She rushed out and quickly drove to work, hoping to sort out the emergency and get home as soon as possible. While Alison remained home, she completed her homework and started watching cartoons.

Suddenly, a big knock rang from the door. Alison didn't know what that sound was. She slowly approached the door and realized that the banging was coming from outside the kitchen door. This loud banging made Alison afraid. She had no idea who it was and was not expecting someone to knock while alone.

She slowly made her way to the window and realized that an elderly lady was knocking on the door. "Please let me in!" she begged.

"Ma'am, you're scaring me!" Alison replied

"I need to tell your mother that this house belonged to me," Camila said.

"But she isn't home; please come back another time," Alison cried.

"That's alright, and I'm sorry for scaring you; I'll just come back some other time," she said, and she left.

Alison sat in her bed, afraid of anyone else trying to come into the house. When her mom came home, she expected her daughter to be asleep. "Baby, why are you still awake so late?" Sandra asked Alison. "Aren't you tired?"

"Mommy, someone was trying to break into the house. An elderly lady was knocking very hard to get into the house!" Alison said.

Sandra was shocked, and she didn't think her child would have to deal with this terrifying moment. "I'm so sorry, baby. Maybe she just got the wrong address," Sandra said. "Don't be afraid, darling, I'm here."

Alison eventually forgot about the incident. But a week later, the old lady came back to knock on the door. When Alison heard this, she tried to remain calm." Hi, it's me from a few days ago. Is your mom home?" she asked.

"No, she's not," Alison replied.

"Can I please come inside and wait for her? Please, I have something important to tell her," she asked.

Despite her mother's warnings, she let the old lady in. She opened the door and let her sit in the kitchen while she made tea. When Sandra came home, she was horrified to see Alison having tea with an elderly lady in the kitchen. "Oh my goodness! Who are you?" Sandra asked.

"Hi Ma'am, I'm Camila; I promise I didn't hurt Alison. I asked to come in and wait for you," she said.

"I don't care! Go home before I call the police!" Sandra shouted.

"Sandra kicked out the old lady and turned to her daughter. "Listen to me. Don't ever let strangers into our home, no matter how nice they sound. Do you understand me?" Sandra said.

Alison agreed and apologized. But she spent the next few days thinking about the old lady. "Mommy, I can't stop thinking about that lady. Just before you got home, she was telling me about how she was defrauded and lost her house because of it and that our house used to be her house," Alison said.

Sandra was surprised to hear this. She didn't know that her daughter was carrying something so heavy in her heart. "Where does the old lady live now?" Sandra asked.

"She mentioned an old age home downtown," Alison said.

The pair immediately drove to the nursing home. When they arrived, they saw Camila in the TV room. "Hi Camila, Alison just told me about you saying you were defrauded. What happened?" Sandra asked.

Camila started crying when she explained the story of how she was defrauded by people who secretly put her house on sale and took all her money. She was embarrassed that she allowed these strangers to ruin her life. She never thought that something like this would happen to her.

Sandra believed the old lady because her story matched how she bought the house. She invited her to come and live with them. "Alison and I have a lot of space, and we don't want you to live such a painful life because of the actions of other people," Sandra explained.

Camila was grateful for the offer to live with Sandra and her daughter. She was happier than she had been in decades. "We hope that you don't need us to leave; we would have nowhere to go," Sandra said to Camila.

"I would never want you to leave; you're the first family I have ever wanted to be around my entire life; you've both made me so happy," she said.

All three of them continued to live a good life together. They spent a lot of time with Camila, and Sandra raised Alison to be a thoughtful and compassionate young woman.

What can we learn from this story?

  • Family can be found in unexpected places. After explaining how she had lost her house, Sandra and Alison became family with Camila.
  • Be wary of strangers. Just because Alison didn't get hurt doesn't mean she should've let Camila into the house.
