Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are recognized as two top fashion icons in America. However, the pair made their claims in entertainment as child actresses.

Born on June 13, 1986, Mary-Kate and her twin, Ashley, made their acting debut in 1987 at nine months old, appearing as Michelle Turner in the family sitcom "Full House."

After the series ran for eight years, the sisters bagged other movie roles and produced many straight to video movies. As time progressed, Mary-Kate and Ashely also became big names in the girl marketing industry.

Currently, products bearing their names like dolls, computer games, and a clothing line for Walmart generate millions of dollars every year.

MEET ELIZABETH OLSEN

Mary-Kate and Ashley have a younger sister, Elizabeth Olsen, who chose acting as they did in their early years, and still sticks with the career, unlike her sisters.

Before Elizabeth was born, her older twin siblings already had their big breaks as child stars. She was a child who grew up watching her sisters excel on TV, which influenced her as she began taking roles as a child too.

In 1994, Elizabeth took on her first role alongside her older sisters in the movie "How the West Was Fun." She would later attend New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.

After graduation, Elizabeth did not return to the screen until 2011, starring as a cult member in "Martha Marcy May Marlene." As time progressed, the actress landed other roles and eventually became successful in her career.

Elizabeth had one problem despite all of their accomplishments — living in her famous sister's shadow. The pressure of having successful sisters always made Elizabeth insecure from childhood, hence her decision to take a break from acting after her first role. Elizabeth explained:

"During that time, I thought, 'I don't want to be associated with [Mary-Kate and Ashley]' for some reason."

I guess I understood what nepotism was like inherently as a 10-year-old. I don't know if I knew the word, but there is some sort of association of not earning something that I think bothered me at a very young age," she added.

Elizabeth also revealed that at some point, she thought about changing her name from Elizabeth Olsen to Elizabeth Chase when she eventually became an actress to distance herself from the "Olsen" name.

Apart from Elizabeth, Mary-Kate and Ashley have three other siblings who steered away from the showbiz industry— Trent Olsen, Courtney Olsen, and Jake Olsen.

Born in 1984, Trent is the oldest of the Olsen siblings. He is a comic writer and is known for making a few appearances in his sisters' straight-to-video movies in the '90s.

Although he has chosen to stay away from the acting, Rob Robol, one of his friends, once revealed that the acting bug almost bit Trent.

According to Robol, when the comic writer was six or seven years old, he auditioned for a role in "Tales From the Crypt" and got it. Unfortunately, his parents did not allow him to take on the part.

Irrespective of his choice to steer clear of acting, the man is still thriving at what he does. He may not be as famous as his sisters, but Trent is known among his friends. During his days in grade school, the comic writer was addressed as the "Olsen twins'" older brother.

Trent would often sell his sisters' autographed pictures, and he became popular amongst his peers in no time. He also won the Mr. Tommy pageant at USC. For Trent, being known without being attached to his sisters' fame was important.

His friend, Robol, noted that although Trent and his sisters have a great relationship, the man preferred not to ask them for help with movie issues. Today, he is proud of his accomplishments as a comic writer and is known for his efforts, not his sisters' fame.

Another of the Olsen siblings, who is doing well, is Courtney. An alumnus of Notre Dame High School, the young lady is not a movie star like her brother, but she has featured in productions like "The Movie" and "Malignant Spirits: Sense of Fiction."

Courtney may have famous siblings, but she is barely spotted with them. However, she makes sure to celebrate their wins. In 2018, Courtney took to Instagram to share a picture of herself admiring Elizabeth's face on the "Avengers: Infinity War" poster at the world premiere. She added the caption:

"Just admiring my badass of a sister."

In addition to having famous sisters, Courtney also has favorite friends. Several times, she has shared snapshots of herself posing with actress and child star Madison Pettis.

Courtney's younger brother, Jake, is the last of the Olsen siblings. Unlike the rest of the family, he has not tried out acting. However, the young man was a model for many years.

In April 2016, he shared two photos of himself modeling for Runway Magazine. The first saw him clad in a Jonathan Keith Styled outfit, with blonde hair.

In the second photo, Jake looked delectable in a multi-colored jacket and black pants while posing with his hand resting on his hair. He added the caption:

"Another beautiful picture was taken by Joe Simpson for RUNWAY magazine. This photo was taken at an amazing place called Fashion for the Stars."

Today, Mary-Kate and Ashley are fashion icons. Even though fans are aware of their accomplishments, they are unaware of the sisters' reason for quitting acting and pursuing fashion.

During an interview in 2013, Ashley revealed that she felt she could not give a hundred percent of her time to acting. On the other hand, Mary-Kate explained that she was not great at not being in control of the end product.

After they quit acting, the Olsen twins focused on running their fashion company, The Row, founded in 2006. In 2008, Mary-Kate and Ashley launched a clothing line called Elizabeth and James, inspired by their siblings. Mary-Kate said:

"We wanted it to be based on a relationship between a young girl and a boy and tell the story through the clothing."

In 2021, thirteen years later, Elizabeth honored her sisters by wearing a dress from their fashion line, The Row, to the Emmys.

She looked stunning in the white flowing dress with a low-cut neckline and dramatic sleeves. Although Elizabeth did not win an award during the event, she made her sisters happy and proud.
