Bernthal's career was boosted by his acclaimed performances in "The Walking Dead." After an increase in his stock as an actor, he began to be cast in more significant projects, including Martin Scorsese's "The Wolf of Wall Street" starring Leonardo DiCaprio in 2013, and "Fury" alongside Brad Pitt in 2014.

However, before he burst onto the scene, the then-small-time actor met the most beautiful woman he had ever met and married her. Erin is the niece of the famous wrestler Kurt Angle. She is an experienced nurse who has worked in wards for over two decades and has degrees to go with the experience.

Erin was born in 1976 and is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She comes from wrestling royalty as she is the niece of legendary WWE superstar Kurt Angle. The wrestler's journey to stardom famously started in 1996 when he won an Olympic gold medal in freestyle wrestling with a broken neck.

Bernthal feels proud of his wife's connection to a famous professional wrestler and thinks that helps her understand him. He said, "She comes from a family of champion wrestlers. She understands me."

Erin is an experienced nursing practitioner who specializes in anesthesiology. She attended Canon McMillan High School, finishing her studies in 1994 before beginning her Bachelor of Nursing degree at Indiana University of Pennsylvania that same year. She became a qualified nurse in 1998.

All those were a year long. She returned to school in 2006 to further her education, graduating with a master's degree in Anesthesiology in 2008 from the University of Southern California. Erin works at the Harbour UCLA Medical Centre as a nurse anesthetist.

Erin Angle Dumped Jon Bernthal at the Beginning of Their Relationship, but Willie Nelson Helped Them Get Back Together

In 1999, Bernthal graduated from Skidmore College and subsequently decided to go to Russia to study at the Moscow Art Theatre. While there, he found a friend in Willie Nelson's songs. After returning to Washington, D.C., his buddies threw him a welcome-home party at a nearby bar.

It was on that fateful night that Bernthal and Erin met. The actor is said to have seen his friend talking to two women, and he recalled that moment, saying:

“I came over and was just rudely messing around, and I know this is the corniest thing in the world, but when I actually saw Erin, it was literally like angels were singing. I had never seen anyone so beautiful.”

After chatting for 45 minutes that night, the pair began dating. They soon moved to Boston after Bernthal had enrolled at Harvard for acting classes, and Erin followed him. They then moved again to LA, which proved costly to their love story as Bernthal got involved in "a bunch of dumb stuff," which led to their breakup.

Erin moved to San Francisco, away from Bernthal. However, he would not let the most beautiful person he had ever laid his eyes on go that easily. The determined actor would constantly drive to San Francisco and leave flowers and poems on his lost lover's car.

The trick helped, but not entirely. Another plan needed to be made for Bernthal to get his lady back finally. Luckily, he got two tickets to see a Nelson live performance at the Fillmore.

After sneaking backstage and explaining his situation to the musician, his request to have him play "Always on My Mind" for the couple was granted. That night, Erin and Bernthal's love flame lit again, and like the Olympic flame, it continued burning.

After several years of dating, Erin and Bernthal decided to take their relationship to the next stage. They lovebirds tied the knot in Potomac, Maryland, on September 25, 2010.

2010 was one of Bernthal's most successful years as he also landed his role on "The Walking Dead" alongside Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, and Andrew Lincoln. That became a springboard to more extraordinary things, including the 2017 action box office hit, "Baby Driver," alongside Ansel Elgort and Lily James.

Erin and Bernthal's union has three children: two sons and a daughter. The boys are named Henry and Billy, while the lone girl is Adeline. Not much is publicly known about the kids except one story about Adeline that strengthened his adoration for his wife.

In 2017, a two-year-old Adeline fell into a coma after a sudden seizure. The condition had been caused by encephalitis, which causes brain swelling. She remained in a coma for several days and could not recognize her family when she finally woke up.

That was a scary experience for Bernthal, but he credited his wife for staying calm and loving their daughter. The actor puts a lot of effort into balancing his career and family life. He tries to be entirely focused on them whenever he is not working. He even abandoned shooting a film when Adeline got sick.
