Kate Middleton and her brother-in-law Prince Harry started their in-law relationship with grace. The dynamic duo got introduced to one another in the 2000s. It did not take time for them to form a bond.

Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, and the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, were first introduced to each other in 2003 at Highgrove.

On that day, Middleton's future husband, Prince William, was present, and when she looked away for a split moment, Prince Harry was stunned.

In the book "Brothers and Wives: Inside the Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry, and Meghan," author Christopher Andersen revealed, "When Will's girl looked away for a moment, Harry dropped his jaw and mouthed the words:

"Oh my God, she is gorgeous!"

"Not realizing that she had caught his reflection in the mirror." From there on, Middleton insisted that Prince Harry visit St. Andrews to spend weekends with them.

Meanwhile, Middleton's mother, Carole Middleton, had urged her daughter to attend St. Andrews when Prince William went there. She also advised her to form a friendship with his younger brother to solidify a long-lasting relationship with the Duke of Cambridge.

Middleton took heed of her mother's advice, but naturally, she had already "nursed a tender affection" for Prince Harry, who had lost his mother at a young age.

The future Queen Consort's Marlborough classmate revealed that fellow students had Prince William's pictures on their walls. However, when Princess Diana passed away, they all empathized with her youngest son, Prince Harry, who was vulnerable.

She remembered Middleton saying: "' Poor Harry, poor Harry,' when we watched him walking behind his mom's coffin. He was the one your heart went out to, even more than William."

In addition, Jules Knight disclosed that from the beginning, Middleton and Prince Harry always got along, "Kate and Harry got on like they'd known each other forever."

While Prince William is known for being the more serious one, his brother and his wife shared a mischievous streak: "They were always full of fun when they were together. They were joking around all the time - always trying to find ways to make each other laugh," said Knight.

The pair's bond strengthened when the Duke of Sussex found out how the Duchess of Cambridge got her nickname, "Middlebum." Prince Harry once said Middleton was like an older sister he never had and occasionally was a mother figure in his life.

On what the Duchess found appealing about her brother-in-law, a royal insider revealed the two have a different relationship than she has with her spouse:

"Harry appeals to her sillier side because he is carefree, footloose, and loves banter. He finds things funny about people and says so."

Prince Harry and Middleton's relationship extended into his adult life. The Cambridges started dating in 2003 while enrolled at the University of St. Andrews, soon after Middleton met her then-boyfriend's brother.

He became her greatest supporter when she and Prince William had trouble in their relationship and were spotted arguing in public spaces. At first, Middleton had reluctantly agreed to keep a low profile, whereas Prince William consistently made front-page news.

The royal was linked to several young women in the UK and overseas. People were astounded when he hopped on a plane to Tennessee to spend time with an Edinburgh University student named Anna Sloan, an American heiress, at her family's home outside Nashville.

But one individual, in particular, that upset his girlfriend was Jecca Craig, his old lover from Kenya. At some point, Craig was dubbed "The One" for Prince William.

The Duke's father, Prince Charles, stated otherwise when he attempted to intervene by issuing a statement insisting there was nothing between the pair, saying they were only friends. However, for two consecutive years, his son pushed on going to Africa to spend part of his summer vacation with Craig.

Middleton put her foot down when the Duke of Cambridge revealed that he would be returning for the third time. One of their close circle from St. Andrews divulged that she felt "threatened and humiliated." But her lover remained adamant about his plans.

After Prince Harry stepped in and urged his brother to consider Middleton's feelings, Prince William decided to skip out on the trip to Kenya. News reports later revealed that he did not even have to leave the country to see Craig because they attended two weddings without Middleton.

Finally, the Prince of Wales, Charles, interceded, telling his son that he needed to stop seeing Craig and avoid leading her on because it would be unfair to her. Middleton was grateful that both her future father-in-law and Prince Harry stepped in.

But then chaos erupted when the couple was spotted having a moment during a ski slope trip at Klosters and were captured on camera. They made headlines on The Sun with a headline read: "Finally, Wills Gets a Girl."

The article angered the Royal Family. The palace allegedly issued a statement accusing the publication of not keeping their end of the deal in leaving Prince William alone until he graduated from St. Andrews. He later begged Middleton to take him back.

Meanwhile, author Tina Brown revealed that the Duke of Sussex fell in love. "Prince Harry, romantically drifted himself in an erratic relationship with Zimbabwean beauty Chelsy Davy, was a major Kate ally," she said

KATE AND HARRY'S RELATIONSHIP WAS FLOURISHING BEFORE HIS MARRIAGE

Before Meghan Markle came along, Prince Harry and Middleton's relationship flourished. When his mother passed, the young prince had no one else to open up to emotionally.

Luckily, the Duchess helped fill up that void. When the Cambridges got engaged, Prince Harry deemed the Duchess the sister he never had. He used to visit the couple's apartment in Kensington Palace, where Middleton reportedly cooked him his favorite meal, roast chicken.

In February 2022, Express reported that a body language expert named Jesus Enrique Rosas assessed Prince Harry and Middleton's relationship before and after he married Markle. His focus was to determine whether their body language interactions were authentic.

Rosas touched on Prince Harry's interview with Newsweek, where he was asked whether he reflected on his destiny to the throne after the Duke and Duchess announced they were expecting their first child.

The prince laughed and said he had not thought that far and was merely missing the couple. "I'm longing to see my brother and sister-in-law," said the Duke. Rosas stated that the royal's response was playful, adding the mere fact that he mentioned his brother and his wife meant they were important to him.

Middleton ensured her brother-in-law remained involved in charity work from their Royal Foundation. Prince Harry said, "Kate is like the big sister he never had in that Newsweek interview. Even occasionally, a mother figure," Rosas reiterated.

For years, the pair were neighbors when Prince Harry moved to Nottingham Cottage and enjoyed watching "Game of Thrones." Rosas said there were many pictures of the duo smiling and laughing together:

"You know that they're really comfortable together, and one of the reasons why is that they tend to mirror each other with their bodies."

He added they both discovered a way to express something that both men and women should acknowledge. "Kate, as a feminine figure using her emotional intelligence, noticed Harry's struggle and served as a catalyst for that search within himself," the expert stated.

Before the prince married Markle, Rosas added that Middleton was his perfect confidant, saying, "Before Meghan, and spending so much time with Kate, she became the best way to speak about his emotions. We know that this is not a topic he would talk about with William."

An insider told the Daily Mail that the Duchess and Prince Harry developed a "genuine friendship" while relying on one another for support other than his stepmother Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. Moreover, Middleton was described as Harry's "trusted counsel."

Meanwhile, the Duke gracefully took on the role of being a fun uncle to Middleton's children. An insider revealed the dynamic duo bonded over the prince's free spirit, adding his attitude helped when playing with Middleton's brood.

"Kate adores the way Harry plays with her children," the source said. "He is very good with them, a charming big kid and silly uncle." While living as neighbors, the Duke of Sussex usually popped into the couple's gym to work out next to Prince William.

He got used to seeing his in-law in her cashmere dressing gown while reading to her daughter, Princess Charlotte, and would join cozy family dinners, eating from their laps, said one royal insider.

Rosas also assessed the period of Middleton and Prince William's engagement compared to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, noting Middleton waited nine years for her husband to propose. He emphasized it was four times what it took for Prince Harry to ask for Markle's hand in marriage.

"So, it's absolutely possible that at some point, Kate suggested Harry was going too fast," said Rosas, adding the actress may have had no problem with things moving fast between her and the prince:

"Of course, Meghan was more than willing to go at 100 miles per hour. She must have guessed that Kate was suggesting for Harry to slow down."

In addition, Rosas claimed that perhaps Prince Harry talking about Middleton often may have created some animosity between the two royal ladies.

"That, and the fact that Harry surely talked about Kate all the time, was one of the factors that started the so-called rift between the two sisters-in-law," the expert alleged.

He also mentioned that those points helped paint a better picture of understanding Markle's statement during an interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021 about the Duchess of Cambridge supposedly making her cry.

"I'm saying that Meghan talking about Kate would be far more damaging to the relationship between the two brothers, even if Harry considered her a sister, " Rosas said

He also discussed the princes and Middleton walking side-by-side following their grandfather, Prince Philip's funeral service. Rosas hinted the Duchess used her emotional intelligence to allow the royal brothers to catch up alone.

He referred to the deed as a power move from her side, which could be used to build stronger relationships, adding that seeing the trio was a delightful throwback.

Rosas suggested the act of the royal couple walking with Prince Harry in the middle demonstrated a signal of protection. He noted Middleton must have thought to herself that she could not wholeheartedly win over her husband's trust if that was not the case with his brother too.

He concluded it could be why the Duchess decided to show a united front in the manner she did, adding it could not be denied that she helped Prince Harry over the years.

Additionally, in December 2021, an insider revealed to People that the Duchess of Cambridge had been "really, really upset about it all," referring to the Sussexes' departure from the UK:

"Everything with Harry and Meghan has been hugely stressful, but it's pulled her and William together if anything. She was upset about it because William was so upset. Seeing her husband distraught was tough."

Reports stated Middleton regretted getting involved in the family drama of Prince Harry and his exit as a senior member of the Royal Family. The Cambridges reportedly immersed themselves in good energy to combat the stress they endured caused by Megxit.

Before Prince Harry met Markle, he was the third wheel in Middelton and his brother's relationship and tagged along wherever they went. But everything changed once he became a married man.

Hence it was refreshing to see him with the couple yet again, just like the old times during the funeral procession of Prince Philip, who sadly died in April 2021. The trio appeared to be in good spirits during their reunion. Shortly after the public ceremony, they even went to a private funeral wake for Prince Philip at Windsor Castle.
