Who Is George Strait Married To? Meet Norma, the Singer's Beloved Wife of More than 50 Years

George Strait is an accomplished country singer with several accolades under his belt. Career aside, he is a family man with kids he shares with his wife of over 50 years.

George Strait hit a milestone as he celebrated his birthday on May 18, 2022. At the age of 70, the “King of Country” has left quite a legacy in the music industry.

George's several accomplishments and accolades include over 68 million records sold in the US and 100 million worldwide. The Texas native also has had 60 top songs in the country charts, a feat only he has managed to achieve in country music history.

The Recording Industry Association of America has also recognized George's talents, awarding him 38 gold albums, 33 platinum albums, and 13 multi-platinum albums. Beyond the stage, he is a loving husband and father. Here's a glimpse into his personal life.

George and Norma's love story is one for the books. “We knew each other forever, growing up in a small town,” the artist said, referring to the first girl he ever loved.

Norma attended the same Texas school as George, but they did not grow apart, unlike other high school sweethearts. The “Write This Down” singer already knew that he had found a gem in Norma, and he didn't want to lose her.

The couple eloped on December 4, 1971; Norma was just 19. Although they were still young, the pair already knew they wanted to spend forever together. Shortly after, George enlisted in the army and left for Hawaii to serve the country. He recalled:

“So I was 19 years old, and I knew this girl, Norma. She was 17, really hot. So we fell in love.”

The following year, they welcomed a daughter, Jennifer Lynn, and in 1981, a son named George “Bubba” Strait Jr. Norma became a housewife while her husband furthered his successful music career.

It has been decades since then, and no matter what challenges life has thrown at them, George and Norma always come out stronger than ever.

After the horrible accident, George and his family were left devastated.

“Norma and I are so blessed that we found each other 41 years ago,” he once said. “And [we] were able to do all of this together, experience this life together, to support each other through everything, good times and bad.”

Unfortunately, the couple experienced a tragedy that was difficult to cope with. On June 25, 1986, their 13-year-old daughter died after a vehicular accident.

Jennifer was riding a car driven by then-18-year-old Gregory Allen when the vehicle rolled over as they made a turn. Unfortunately, she was not wearing her seat belt at the time.

After the horrible accident, George and his family were left devastated. He stepped away from the limelight to grieve. “I just kind of shut down,” he said. Although he can never get over his daughter's death, George manages to cope with the loss.
