Aussie natives Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman met in the US back in the 2000s. While the "Aquaman" star was instantly besotted with the musician, he was far from taking notice and had good reason.

Country music star Keith Urban first crossed paths with actress Nicole Kidman at the G'Day USA Gala, an event honoring Australians in Los Angeles in 2005.

Kidman later admitted that she had a crush on the "Somebody Like You" singer, but Urban was unaware that she did. It upset her that he did not reach out for four months after meeting.

"I remember thinking, I had such a crush on him, and he wasn't interested in me. It's true! He didn't call me for four months," she revealed to talk show host Ellen DeGeneres in 2017.

Urban had a valid reason for not reaching out to his future wife during that period, saying he was not interested in pursuing a romantic relationship. However, that does not mean that he did not think about contacting Kidman. He told the Australian talk show "Interview" in 2018 that it crossed his mind:

"Somebody had given me her number, and I had it in my pocket for a while. I kept looking at it, thinking, ‘If I call this number, she's going to answer. I don't know what to say. I wasn't in a very healthy place in my life.'"

Urban also admitted that he never imagined that a woman like Kidman would want to be involved with him. "I'd never have thought she'd see anything in a guy like me," he said.

However, he finally got the courage to call her, and she answered. From that point, they never stopped talking, making communication between them effortless.

In December 2021, rumors swirled that he was not initially interested in the "The Undoing" star but cleared the misconception by stating that was not the case: "I was like, 'There's no way this girl is interested in me at all," Urban added.

Nonetheless, the couple married in 2006 in an extravagant wedding ceremony in Sydney, and shortly after, there were reports of friction in the duo's marriage in the first year.

Urban and Kidman entered into a $13 million complex prenuptial agreement which became null and void when they were married for only one year. Her lawyers had put a secret clause within the prenuptial agreement.

Reports stated the pair had signed a legal agreement that revealed that for each year they remained married, Urban, who was less famous than Kidman at the time, would receive $930,000.

But the clause stipulated that if the singer-songwriter relapsed into his well-known substance addiction, their contract would be void.

In addition, Kidman's former husband, Tom Cruise, insisted for her lawyers to demand that if Urban gave in to his addictive habit, he should go to rehab in a bid to protect Connor and Isabella, the two kids Cruise and Kidman share.

Unfortunately, Urban did end up in rehab after a few months of his marriage to the producer, meaning he violated both clauses. Over the years, the guitarist made a name for himself in Hollywood with stints on "American Idol" and the Australian version of "The Voice."

Uban's net worth is estimated at $110 million, while his wife is worth $360 million. If the two were to divorce, Kidman would financially benefit from it.

Shortly after the couple wed in June 2006 in a romantic Manly Australia, their blissful union was short-lived due to Urban going to rehab.

Kidman staged an intervention for her newly wedded spouse, and to this day, he remains grateful that she did. Urban told Rolling Stone in 2014 that he was thankful that Kidman stepped in to help him with his addiction:

"I was very, very blessed to have Nic call an intervention on me."

The "The Fighter" singer added he did not care about anything else at that point and only wanted to turn on a new leaf, doing whatever it took to accomplish that, and he successfully did.

His publicist at the time released a statement revealing that he had voluntarily admitted himself to a treatment rehabilitation center with his supportive wife by his side in October 2006.

The Grammy Award winner showed remorse for the hurt he caused his wife and family and became determined to meet them halfway in getting him to be better.

On top of his addictions, the vocalist was also a party animal back in the day but realized that if he wanted to stay married to Kidman, something had to give.

In an interview with The Sun in May 2022, Urban admitted that though he still makes mistakes, they are not as big as the previous ones:

"I still make the odd mistake but not anything like I did in the past, and these days, I see them coming before everything implodes."

On his life presently, Urban said he does not "do anything religiously to live a healthier lifestyle," adding, "I just do what I have to so that I can live the life I want to live. Nothing more, nothing less," he said.

The proud dad of two hopes to set a prime example to his daughters, Faith, and Sunday, whether they choose to follow in the footsteps of their famous parents or not. Urban reiterated his past faults and emphasized that one has to work on whatever works for them, stating:

"I had made so many mistakes, but you have to work out what works for you. My message to them is always to do whatever they are passionate about; I don't care, as long as they work hard to achieve it."

Kidman gave birth to the couple's first child together, Sunday Rose, in July 2008. The duo welcomed their second daughter, Faith Margret, via surrogate in December 2010.

Urban and Kidman have different views on religion as a married couple, but they have managed to compromise. In April 2019, the "Bombshell" star shared the family dynamics with Vanity Fair regarding the contrasting religions between her and her husband.

Kidman has a firm belief in God and is not afraid to say it aloud. She revealed that a lot of her friends tease her about it. The family of four goes to church together, and she acknowledged that her spouse has a different belief from hers, revealing:

"That's how we are raising our children. Keith has his own beliefs, but he comes, too."

Kidman explained that growing up, she had a Catholic grandmother who instilled prayer in the family and had a significant impact on her life. The A-Lister is also not a judgmental individual.

During that interview, the Academy Award winner confessed that she was constantly on the verge of tears. "Because of Krista. Life," she stated.

The mom of four revealed that she had also considered her mortality, adding she was far more honest and raw in the present time because she used to be scared before.

When coming to her marriage to Urban, the country crooner admitted that he almost ruined it, but then it survived. Urban said his union with Kidman is a miracle:

"I caused the implosion of my fresh marriage. It survived, but it's a miracle it did. I was spiritually awoken with her. I use the expression 'I was born into her,' and that's how I feel."

The music superstar mentioned that for the first time in his life, he could finally shake off the shackles of addiction and turn his life around for the better.

Meanwhile, in a 2018 interview with Harper's Bazaar, Kidman shared how the couple's marriage has been successful, revealing that they always make time for each other.

The Hollywood starlet shared that though she works hard, when she is off, that is it, adding she and her spouse are good at shutting off work mode because they have a good life together. The pair reside in Nashville and live a simple and quiet life.

In August 2020, Kidman helped promote Urban's single, "Tumbleweed." She posted a cozy image of them sporting nearly identical denim jackets paired with white shirts and dark jeans.

While promoting "Being the Ricardos" in December 2021, the "Big Little Lies" alum gushed about her husband, telling Entertainment Tonight that she is appreciative of him:

"I honestly wouldn't be here without him, so I say that with incredible love and gratitude. He's my rock. He's my everything."

She still maintained her gratitude for having Urban in her life during an interview with "CBS Mornings," stating that she met the "Better Life" singer later in her life, and it has been the best thing ever.

"That man is the best thing that's ever happened to me," Kidman said of her husband of sixteen years. She added they are a perfect match and that she is fortunate to have met him.

While performing in Las Vegas in March 2022, Urban jumped on a red-eye flight to go and support his beautiful wife, who celebrated her Oscar nomination for "Being the Ricardos."

Urban hopped on an airplane the night before the prestigious event and was by his spouse's side at 1 a.m. Kidman gushed to Vanessa Hudgens on the ABC red carpet, holding her partner's hand.
