Paul Bettany faced some ups and downs on his way to the top. But now he can say he is a winner, not only when it comes to acting but also with his beautiful wife and kids.
Today, the phenomenal performer Paul Bettany turns 51 years old. While his life currently looks like a dream come true, this actor struggled to get where he is.
Bullied in school, this London-born boy's parents were ex-actors who taught the craft to others, not bringing much money in. The star-to-be also lived in a poor neighborhood. He eventually moved to London at 16 years old in an attempt to live off busking with his guitar and singing skills.

Sadly, this did not work out, and he returned home, where he worked at a senior center facility. Not sure about his next move, Bettany chose to try his hand at acting, saying:
"I quickly discovered I was comfortable in other people’s skin—the skin of my characters. I enjoyed not being myself and, for the first time I was getting better at something. I also could pour all of my rage, guilt, shame and loss into my roles."
Everything slowly began getting better as he rose to relative stardom, playing in movies such as "A Knight's Tale" alongside the late Heath Ledger, "A Beautiful Mind" with protagonist Russell Crowe and starring in "Wimbledon" alongside his love interest, Kirsten Dunst.
But, the fickleness of Tinseltown eventually worked its dark magic after he met with a producer who told him his career was plummeting. Sitting on the sidewalk, not knowing what to do, his phone rang — Director Joss Whedon asked him if he wanted to play "Vision" in the next "Avengers" movie. He recollected:
"I sort of looked up to heaven and thought karma's very quick these days ... and [I] flipped the building behind me the finger. It happened just like that. I sat down and my phone rang. Very funny. But you know if I had a dollar for every time somebody told me my career was over, my career could be over."
This role of "Vision" has skyrocketed him to a new level of fame. While this is great for his acting, it does pose, as is usual, a level of privacy invasion only experienced by celebrities.
He spoke about a day when he was having a typical disagreement on the subway with his wife, "Requiem For A Dream" actress Jennifer Connelly. They were squabbling about who should pick up their children from school.
The fight was recorded and shared with the public, which led to divorce rumors. Bettany stated that his kids were asked if their parents were splitting up at school.
HOW DID PAUL BETTANY AND JENNIFER CONNELLY MEET?
Of course, despite public speculation, these two are still together. Bettany and Connelly met on the set of "A Beautiful Mind" in 2001, where Bettany had a crush on his co-star -- since childhood.
But, he fell even more for her when he spotted her in person for the first time. The actress herself had feelings for him, but neither voiced them and so they went their separate ways.
HOW DID PAUL BETTANY PROPOSE TO JENNIFER CONNELLY?
But, this bashfulness was soon gone when the 9/11 attacks occurred. Immediately concerned about Connelly, Bettany realized he was in love with her. Then, like a scene out of a rom-com, he recollected:
“I remember thinking to myself, ‘What are you doing?’ Then realizing I was in love. When I finally got hold of her I said ‘I'm coming over, let's get married."
At the time, they had not even lived together, let alone gone on a date, and yet, Connelly made the surprising choice of saying yes.
HOW MANY YEARS HAVE PAUL BETTANY AND JENNIFER CONNELLY BEEN TOGETHER?
The two wed in a private ceremony in 2003, meaning they have been married for just under two decades. According to Bettany, his academy-award-winning wife had helped him with his drug abuse, which he believes stems from his trauma when he was a teenager.
As a whole, the two are known as one of the most successful couples in Hollywood. The duo is very private about their relationship and their children.
HOW MANY CHILDREN DO PAUL BETTANY AND JENNIFER CONNELY HAVE?
The couple has two children together. Their youngest is Agnes Lark Bettany, born on May 31, 2009, and seems highly interested in acting and directing. Their oldest is Stellan, who was born on August 5, 3003.
On top of their two biological children is Kai Dugan, Connelly's son from a previous marriage. Bettany serves as a father figure for him.
While his recent attachment to the Johnny Depp case has placed a somewhat dubious stain on his reputation, it appears that, for the most part, he remains unmarked. Instead, he is living his life happily with his wife and children.
