Tom Cruise Has Not Seen Daughter in Years — His Ex's Former Friend Claimed He Had 'Master Plan' to 'Lure' Suri

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were excited when they learned they would become parents. They married after their daughter was born but divorced six years later. Since splitting in 2013, Cruise has allegedly not seen his daughter, but a source claims he plans on "luring" her away.

After the "Jerry Maguire" star split from his second wife Nicole Kidman in 2001, he found love in the arms of "Dawson's Creek" star Katie Holmes.

Their whirlwind romance lasted months before making their first public appearance, and an engagement followed soon after, in June 2005. Before they could tie the knot, Holmes discovered she was pregnant with their first baby together.

They announced the news in October and were excited to welcome their baby. Cruise bought an ultrasound machine so they could monitor their baby from home. However, the actor shared that he would not disclose the baby's gender to the media until after birth.

The big day came in April 2006, when the couple welcomed their baby girl, weighing 7 pounds, 7 ounces, and 20 inches long. They named her Suri, Hebrew for "princess" and Persian for "red rose."

Eight months later, the new parents treated their family and friends to a spectacular wedding ceremony in Italy and went the whole nine yards with fireworks and a medieval castle.

Holmes looked stunning in a Giorgio Armani off-the-shoulder gown while the groom donned a navy two-button Armani tux. Their daughter wore an ivory silk tulle Armani dress that matched her mother's.

As her older brother Connor carried her down the aisle, one could make out fascinated "Awwws" coming from the crowd and even some tears here and there.

As Cruise is a staunch follower of the Church of Scientology, the wedding was a 20-minute traditional Scientology ceremony that required them" to never close their eyes in sleep on a disagreement or an upset."

They then exchanged platinum-and-diamond Cartier Dia Eternity bands. After the ceremony, the guests dined on risotto, parmesan-crusted fillet, and sea bass with artichokes washed down with only the best wine, even as Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli serenaded the couple.

TROUBLE IN PARADISE?

Following their one-of-a-kind wedding, the couple settled into raising their daughter and seemed to be living their best life. However, five months after their wedding, reports started claiming that the couple was experiencing trouble in their marriage.

Several tabloids reported that Holmes lived in a "prison-like" environment, with Cruise pushing her to adopt his spiritual beliefs.

Following the allegations, Jenna Elfman, a friend of Cruise and a member of the Church of Scientology, disputed the claims saying they could not have been further from the truth. She told People:

"They have a great life, and they love each other. For some reason, the media cannot experience that. They must put in things other than the simplicity of it."

In the years following their lavish wedding, Holmes often gushed over her love for her husband, praising him for exposing her to new experiences and even praising Cruise's other children, who called her mom.

However, that would change in July 2012, when Cruise, while shooting one of his adrenaline-filled scenes for "Oblivion," received a devastating call. Holmes had filed for divorce and wanted sole custody of their daughter, Suri.

With help from her hard-charging attorney dad and a dedicated team of attorneys, Holmes got full custody of her daughter while Cruise made do with generous visitation rights.

While neither Holmes nor Cruise ever disclosed why they got divorced, rumors seemed to imply that Cruise's spiritual inclinations were the reason the two split.

CRUISE REPORTEDLY CHOSE NOT TO SEE SURI

Following the quick divorce and settlement, a source revealed that Cruise and Suri took to Skyping and texting, but that trailed off drastically.

In 2016, In Touch reported that since the 2013 divorce, Cruise had not seen his daughter. In 2018, Us Weekly also said the same. Despite being allowed to see his daughter ten days a month, Cruise was yet to, since he and Holmes divorced.

Reports claim that as Holmes is considered an "enemy" of the Scientology church, Cruise cannot be associated with her and, by extension, his daughter.

Tony Ortega, a critic of Scientology, claims that Holmes may have signed a non-disclosure agreement not to say anything wrong about the church.

Ortega also says that Holmes was likely advised not to keep in touch with her former Scientologist and friend Leah Remini because hanging out with her would be considered disparaging to the church.

Speaking to Us Weekly, Remini disclosed that Homes could not even have a meal with her if she wanted to keep custody of her daughter. Thus, it is in Holmes and Suri's best interest to speak not of the church nor Remini, as that would jeopardize her custody of her daughter.

CRUISE IS STILL IN TOUCH WITH SURI

For years, the "Top Gun" actor has eluded accusations that he has not been in touch with his daughter after numerous tabloids accused him of turning his back on her.

Still, a close friend of Holmes told HollywoodLife that the actor has kept in touch with his daughter and sends her gifts on her birthdays and Christmas. They added:

"It's not something Katie talks about, though, beyond saying that Tom does always come through with gifts for things like birthdays and Christmas. She's very tight-lipped."

In 2019, HollywoodLife reported that while Cruise would not be there for his daughter's birthday, he still loved her and often thought about her.

He also pays plenty of money in child support for his daughter. According to TMZ, Cruise pays $400,000 annually and will continue to do so until Suri turns 18. He also must pay for other expenses, including education, college, insurance, dental, medical, and extracurricular costs.

The effort is, however, not one-sided. In 2016, an insider told Star Magazine, according to Now To Love, that Suri was communicating with her dad. However, Holmes did not know this was happening.

The reports came after Suri was spotted outside her school making a call, and the source claimed that Cruise was on the other side of the line. She had also apparently been texting her dad while her mother was away.

MASTER PLAN TO 'LURE' SURI

Remini believes that Cruise has a master plan to "lure" Suri. She claims Cruise is waiting for his daughter to grow older so he can indoctrinate her into his church.

Speaking to The New York Post, Remini disclosed that as things stand now, the Scientology church considers Holmes an oppressive person. Thus, Cruise cannot be connected to Suri because her mother is an "enemy." She added:

"I'm sure his master plan is to wait until Suri gets older so that he can lure her into Scientology and away from her mother."

Remini claims she knew Holmes when she was in Scientology, and she'd seemed very involved in Cruise's beliefs. However, as time passed, Remini understood why Holmes did what she had to do to protect her daughter. Now she hopes Holmes has in place some agreement to protect Suri.

Remini also says she is proud of Holmes for getting her daughter out of "something that would have been potentially very toxic and dangerous for not only Suri but for their relationship."

While there's no foretelling what will happen in the future, Holmes chooses to live in the present and reportedly introduced her daughter to her then-boyfriend Bobby Wooten III. The two established a friendship, and Wooten made Suri laugh. Sadly, Holmes and Wooten broke up in December 2022.
