A mother has been getting backlash from the Tiktok community since she revealed that she was making her daughter, who wanted to stay home, pay rent. The issue has sparked a serious debate, but the proud mom is convinced she is doing the right thing.

18-year-old Jada was enjoying her life as a teenager, looking forward to a new future of possibilities as she reached her legal age. But what she might not have seen coming was her mom preparing legal documents that mandated her to pay a sum of money every month to continue living under her roof.

Her mother, who lives with her in Oklahoma, posted footage on Tiktok that showed Jada signing the lease requiring her to pay $100 per month to continue living at home with a caption that read "when your 18-year-old decides to stay at home."

The short video, which had the song "It's a Hard Knock Life" playing in the background, then cut to the part where Jada was seen appending her signature with a caption that claimed the mom was setting her "up for success."

The dozens of hateful comments led the mother to make a follow-up video where she explained why she took the step. She said that at the age of 16, she was already a single mom, and her parents did not set her up to have a successful life, leaving her fighting tooth and nail to achieve her goals.

According to her, she does not want her kids to be solely dependent on her. She would rather they be able to handle the realities of life in the real world, which includes knowing how to browse through a legal document and not simply signing anything brought before her.

The woman mentioned that in their area of residence, people need a "renter's history" to get a place, and by taking $100 from her daughter each month, she was helping her create said history.

She also added that the 18-year-old Jada would only pay that bill while the mom continued to cover her car payment, insurance, and cellphone bills.

There were a lot of angry users who thought she was being unfair. However, there were also several supportive comments from users who thought she was on the right path.
