Parents do their best to protect their beloved kids but can't shield them from every blow life throws. While moms and dads dream about seeing their little ones grow from youngsters into adults, this isn't always possible.
Read one mom's touching story and discover her heartbreakingly beautiful goal, all for the sake of her son.
A LONGING FOR MOTHERHOOD
Jenna Loughran never imagined the uphill battles she would fight in her life. She struggled with infertility and desperately longed to be a mom, so she tried in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Loughran had a dream, and she hoped it would become a reality for the sake of her son. However, there was another obstacle in her way.
The first round was unsuccessful, but Loughran refused to give up. Her fighting spirit kicked in, and she decided on the second round of IVF. Thankfully, it worked, and she was delighted to become a mom.
SHE ADORED HER SON
When Loughran welcomed her little boy, Theo, into the world, she was in love instantly. She devoted every moment to him and enjoyed raising her "best friend."
The duo had an unbreakable bond, and the mom's Facebook page was filled with photos of them on fun adventures, always smiling brightly. In 2020, Loughran made a shocking discovery. She shared:
"After finding a lump in the shower, I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Triple Negative Breast Cancer."
SHE WAS A FIGHTER
The mother was stunned by her diagnosis but didn't allow it to hold her back in life. She endured treatment for 14 months, and by February 2022, she started planning for the future again.
Loughran planned to become a teaching assistant and was proud of the taxing ordeal she had survived. Sadly, she was dealt another blow when visiting her doctor for a check-up a month later—her cancer was back.
SHE WANTED MORE TIME WITH HER SON
Loughran was classed as Stage Four, meaning there was no cure for her illness. Medical personnel prescribed medication to prolong her life, and she wanted to make the most of it. She said:
"I don't know how long I've got left and I've got a little boy, he's just turned three. It's the most aggressive form of breast cancer, with the least amount of treatment options. I just hoped I had more time."
THE MOTHER'S NOBLE DREAM
Loughran knew her time with Theo was limited, and she was devastated. The mom wanted her son to have lots of fond memories with her. She expressed:
"It is so cruel that I won’t be around to see him grow up. My heart breaks for him. I want him to be proud of his Mummy and know I did everything I could to be around for as long as I can."
Loughran had a dream, and she hoped it would become a reality for the sake of her son. However, there was another obstacle in her way.
SHE NEEDED HELP
The mother needed help to set her plan into motion. Before she could go on trips and outings with her son, she posted a call for some assistance online. She stated:
"As I’m not working, this is very difficult. I spend a lot of money going back and forth to the hospital and on supplements to try and keep me as healthy and active as possible."
She wished she didn't need to ask strangers for financial aid, but the mom had no other options. Thankfully, netizens stepped up, raising more than £6,000 (about $7,700) by mid-July 2022.
MAKING MEMORIES
Loughran encouraged online users to share her GoFundMe page with friends and family because she still had "a lifetime of memories to make."
Loughran was grateful for every donation thus far and shared how she planned to spend the money. The mother had arranged to visit CBeebies Land, Christmas away in Centre Parcs, and a trip to Majorca, Spain.
THE MOM'S MESSAGE FOR THE WORLD
Loughran had a message for the world and hoped her story would encourage them. The mom stated:
"I just want people to be more body aware, just go to the doctors if you feel like something is wrong and get checked out. And finally, don't leave it to the last minute to make memories with the ones you love."
Family, friends, and strangers were heartbroken with the mother. Many shared well wishes on her Facebook page, and one user wrote: "Thinking of you." Another added: "Devastated for you."
Loughran is a brave and strong woman. Her love for her son undoubtedly propels her to fight against all odds. She is an inspiration for the rest of the world. What do you think about her noble fundraiser?
