In 2008, Herschel Walker released his book, "Breaking Free," wherein the former football star spoke about various things like living with Dissociative Identity Disorder and his wife, Cindy DeAngelis Grossman. Walker confessed in his book that one of his most extraordinary experiences while at the University of Georgia was meeting his future wife.

Grossman's husband recalled seeing her the first at the beginning of October one late afternoon. It was his freshman year, and he was sitting with his whole lower leg and right foot submerged in water and ice.

The Italian-American woman lay across from him on a treatment table with a thermal heat pad placed on her right quadriceps. Walker was minding his business, and when he looked up, Grossman smiled at him and waved.

The Brooklyn native looked familiar to him until he remembered seeing her in his sister Veronica's room several times. However, because he was so focused on his studies and football, they didn't click immediately, but she asked if he was Veronica's brother.

She recalled him acting "weird" when they first met. Walker hadn't dated any girls before her, and when they asked him out, he didn't go. In turn, he never asked anyone out. Grossman confessed to only meeting him because she ran track with his sister.

She showed Veronica around campus and introduced her to Walker. Grossman recalled how the football star would visit their room and sit for two hours doodling without saying anything.

Eventually, Grossman and the athlete started seeing each other, and she and her family had reunited. After reading about him, her family decided he was a good man. However, when they heard the couple wanted to relocate to New Jersey before marriage, they disapproved of the plan.

Her father thought he, especially as the athlete stereotypes go, was only interested in sex with her, which upset the couple. However, Grossman's father's stance only brought her and Walker closer instead of apart.

Unconsciously, the football player was afraid of moving on his own to New Jersey. Grossman was willing to leave with him even without marriage being on the table, but her father's words bothered them so much they decided to proceed.

Before Walker went to Florida's training camp, he and Grossman went to Verona, New Jersey's city hall to get married. They tied the knot in front of a couple of friends who'd helped make their union arrangements possible.

The couple's family members weren't in attendance, and no reception or honeymoon was held either. Instead, Grossman's new husband had a training camp to attend and left her behind to furnish their place.

Before then, the pair had lived in a hotel, and only after he left did he close a deal, and they signed paperwork before moving in. Sadly, Grossman and Walker's marriage wasn't the best relationship.

How Was Cindy DeAngelis Grossman's Marriage to Walker?

In his book, Walker admitted to having been selfish in some aspects as Grossman's husband. When the couple first married, and for a good part of it, their lives revolved around the athlete. Upon their move to New Jersey, Grossman had some friends, but most of her time with her husband was spent at home.

Walker didn't socialize with other players; he and his wife hardly went out to eat, and he never patronized bars. They preferred cooking at home, and Grossman fed him well. Their routines were based on his career needs and demands.

Initially, his wife appeared to love their lifestyle and would travel with him to away games and sometimes take friends along. Things didn't change much during Grossman's husband's off-season, and she constantly had to adjust if he had to shoot a commercial or attend a meeting.

She ran the day-to-day household things and didn't work while other people handled their money and other stuff. Walker thought she was happy but later wondered how fulfilling her life was with her duties.

Grossman kept things running in the household through her husband's trades, signings, practices, and games. The footballer believed they had a great life but knew some things in their lifestyle eventually took a toll on her.

To him, Grossman was his teammate, someone he supported and could rely on, but the downfall of that was:

"I had to focus so much of my time and energy on myself and what I was doing."

One good thing about Grossman and Walker's marriage was that they welcomed one child together. Their offspring has become a controversial figure on social media and other platforms.
