Cindy Deangelis Grossman was married to ex-sportsman Herschel Walker, having met him through his sister. During their first meeting, both of them were in treatment for track injuries.

Grossman was a businesswoman and only became a public figure when she married Walker; sadly, the two eventually divorced after being married for almost two decades.

CINDY DEANGELIS GROSSMAN SUFFERED BECAUSE OF HER HUSBAND'S MENTAL ILLNESS

After the divorce, Walker's ex-wife has not been publically vocal for an extended period. Still, recently, his political opponents released a video of an old interview with her claiming that he had been violent towards her. His ex-wife also filed a protective order from him, granted to her by the courts in 2005.

Responding to this, Grossman stated that the violent actions his ex-spouse was referring to were due to his Dissociative Identity Disorder (D.I.D.). This disorder causes one's psyche to split into different personalities, or put more succinctly; other alters; a reality he opened up about in his 2008 book."Breaking Free."

Out of these many alters, he claimed one is violent. He said: "I lost the person that was like everything to me. I lost my wife, and that's totally, totally devastating to me."

He has stated that Bill Kristol's Republican Accountability Project tried to create a stigma around him regarding his mental illness through this old video.

He said that at the time, the television interview was done in a spirit of forgiveness and hoping to reach out to those struggling. This controversy came after the former N.F.L. player began running for a Senate seat and won.

CINDY DEANGELIS GROSSMAN AND HERSCHEL WALKER'S 16 YEARS OF MARRIAGE

Before all this scandal and their divorce in 2002, Grossman and Walker were married for 16 years, exchanging vows on March 31, 1983. As mentioned, Grossman met her future husband through his sister. They were both in college, and she remembered he would come to her room and doodle while not saying a word. Grossman said:

"I remember how he acted when we met. I thought he was really weird. He had never dated a girl in his life. They'd ask him out and he wouldn't go. And he'd never asked anyone out himself."

Grossman was the exception to this no-dating pattern. Eventually, the two got married, and Walker's romantic side began to bloom with one of his poems for her, partially reading: "For an hour or a minute, these moments with you are a dream I had that somehow came true."

While they were married, Grossman was confused and frightened by Walker's behavior, but she said the diagnosis now makes it much more understandable. Beyond the violence, speaking about what she experienced, Grossman recalled the different alters or personalities that her husband would change into, saying:

"It's hard to explain, but even his physical countenance would change... There was also a very sweet, loveable [personality]. That's the one he told me I married. He told me I didn't marry Herschel."

When it came to moments of violence, Walker says he did not remember them, with memory gaps being a usual symptom of D.I.D. His ex-wife referred to this violent alter as "evil."

HERSCHEL WALKER'S POLITICAL CAREER

Walker won a G.O.P. Senate Primary this year for Georgia. The Republican and Donald Trump supporter initially ran for the senate to challenge the Democrat, Senator Raphael Warnock.

Before he ran for senate in Georgia, he played and was the leader of the University of Georgia football team, winning the Heisman Trophy in 1982.

He also went on to play for the Philidelphia Eagles and the New York Giants, retiring in 1997. He has since been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

CINDY DEANGELIS GROSSMAN AND HERSCHEL WALKER HAVE A SON

Grossman and Walker's son, Christian, was born in 1999, making him 22 years old. He is a student at UCLA and runs a podcast called "Uncancellable" that, in some aspects, reflects his father's conservative beliefs.

He believes his podcast focuses on common sense and fights against the purportedly current "woke" liberal culture. In June 2022, he tweeted that he is sexually attracted to men but is not gay.

Nothing is known about what kind of relationship Cindy DeAngelis Grossman is in with her son. But photos of his father often appear on his page, while he does not post pictures with his mother.

Grossman continues to live a very private life and has remarried. Beyond Walker, more and more famous individuals are opening up about their battles with mental illnesses or substance abuse.

Ben Affleck, for one, spoke about how alcoholism and mental illness are widespread in his family; Affleck himself had a drinking problem that he had to contend with. It took him ample time to admit that he was an alcoholic.
