Prince Harry knows this firsthand that selfless giving is an act of love. The Duke of Sussex once gave Prince William and his wife the only precious treasure he kept from his mother. However, despite its significance, the Duchess of Cambridge altered the gift. Here are the details.

It is no news that Prince Harry and Prince William have been in a royal feud for some time now. However, there was once a time when the brothers were an inseparable pair.

Growing up in a Royal household, Harry and William were close and did almost everything together. Despite losing their mother at an early age, their bond only grew stronger and more memorable with every passing day.

Harry and William were so inseparable that they chose to rent a cottage together while training for their helicopter licenses at the Defence Helicopter Flying School in their twenties.

During a 2009 interview with BBC, William opened up about his experiences living with his little brother. According to the future king, he cooked for Harry and even cleaned up after him. William noted to the outlet (via Hello Magazine):

Overall, seeing and hearing how Harry and William loved and cared about each other in their early years was quite joyful. For the longest time, Princess Diana's death remained one of the biggest circumstances that held the brothers together. Here are more details about the royal brothers' relationship.

HARRY'S SELFLESS GESTURE FOR WILLIAM & KATE

Princess Diana's 1997 death was not easy for Harry and William to deal with, seeing that they were quite young at the time. So, to help the brothers remember their mother, Prince Charles allowed his sons to pick items from Diana's jewelry collection.

It was reported that Harry chose his mother's Sapphire ring while William went for Diana's gold Cartier watch.

In "The Diana Story: Part III: Legacy of Love," the Princess of Wales's Former Butler, Paul Burrell, revealed that the gold watch was given to Diana by her father on her 21st birthday.

On the other hand, Burrell noted that the Sapphire ring was Diana's engagement ring. He also recalled how Harry would mention that the ring always hurt his hand whenever his mom held him because it was huge.

Unfortunately, after many years of relating peacefully as brothers, Harry and William's close bond seems to be a thing of the past.

Nevertheless, Harry held onto the piece of jewelry, as it was a precious treasure. However, the Duke of Sussex willingly gave out the jewelry to William when he was close to proposing to his wife, Kate Middleton. In Burrell's words:

"So Harry gave up his precious treasure, his one thing he kept from his mother, he gave to his brother. That's selfless, kind, and exactly who Diana was."

It was believed that Harry willingly gave William the ring because he did not have anyone to marry yet and thought it would be befitting for the older brother to propose with their mother's ring.

KATE TRIED TO AVOID HER "WORST NIGHTMARE"

Diana's engagement ring was unique as many royals usually opted for diamond engagement rings at the time. The jewelry piece had a 12-carat blue Sapphire surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds.

Due to Harry's selfless act, Middleton received the engagement ring from William when the latter proposed in Kenya in 2010. However, before their April 29, 2011, wedding, the ring began to slip from Middleton's finger. Due to her pre-wedding diet, the Duchess of Cambridge had gone from a size ten to a size six.

It became evident that something had to be done when the engagement ring could be seen slipping from her finger on the last day of official duties before the big day. So, Middleton allegedly approached Crown Jeweller Harry Collins, requesting a ring altercation.

Collins reportedly suggested adding small platinum beads to act as runners inside the bottom of the rings to make it a perfect fit for the bride-to-be. So, it is believed that he resized the ring, making it 1-1.25 millimeters bigger than Middleton's finger size.

A source revealed to the Sun that even though Middleton adored the piece of jewelry, she needed to do the altercations to avoid a bride's worst nightmare. In the source's words (via Express.co.uk):

DETAILS ON HARRY AND WILLIAM'S ONGOING RIFT

Unfortunately, after many years of relating peacefully as brothers, Harry and William's close bond seems to be a thing of the past. The rift between the brothers began in March 2020 after Harry and his wife Meghan Markle stepped down from their duties as senior working royals.

Since then, all efforts to reconcile the duo have failed. In June 2022, a source reported to US Magazine that Middleton still believes that there is hope in saving the brothers from not talking again.

According to the source, irrespective of everything that has happened, the Duchess of Cambridge can sense that her husband still feels the loss of his brother. Middleton is trying everything possible to bridge the gap between the brothers as she has attempted in the past. The source explained:

"She had a quiet word with the boys separately, even going as far as calling Harry in Montecito and suggesting that he reach out to William on his birthday."

Although a reunion seems far-fetched for now, Harry reportedly made efforts for his children to meet with William's kids. According to another source, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex feel it would be wrong to rob their children of the opportunity of relating with their cousins, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

So, Harry reportedly organized a zoom call to allow his and William's kids to see each other. Whatever the case, the public can only remain optimistic that the royal brothers will put their differences aside, especially for the sake of their children.
