On July 29, 2022, Netflix released "Purple Hearts," based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Tess Wakefield. The movie featured Sofia Carson as the aspiring and struggling singer-songwriter Cassie Salazar and Nicholas Galitzine as a troubled Marine named Luke Morrow.

Cassie Salazar was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and struggled to afford insulin, while Luke Morrow owed $15,000 to a dealer from the days he was an addict, and the dealer wanted his money back.

After Salazar and Morrow met at the bar where she plays with her band, even though she initially disliked him, they had no choice but to team up for their mutual benefit.

They decided to get married so Carson's Salazar would benefit from the health insurance granted to military spouses. At the same time, Galitzine's Morrow would use the extra money he got for being married to pay off his debt.

Despite their differences, tragedy forced the couple to work together to make their fake marriage which was only supposed to last a year, seem natural, and they truly fell in love with each other in no time.
