The original plan of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex was to travel together to see the Queen.

Harry reportedly has lost his "only ally" in the Royal Family.
When the royal family announced their concerns about the Queen's health on September 8, 2022, members of the family started rushing to her Balmoral Estate.
According to the Sun, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had taken the initiative to announce that they would be traveling to see the monarch together.

However, this decision was turned down by the new reigning monarch, King Charles III. A source told The Sun that the king gave his son a phone call and told him it would not be appropriate to bring Markle to Balmoral at such a difficult time for the family.
The source also pointed out that King Charles told Harry that Kate Middleton would not join them at Balmoral but clarified that Markle would not be welcomed.
Harry eventually agreed and reportedly traveled alone to Balmoral while his brother, Prince William, and his uncles, Prince Edward and Prince Andrew, took the RAF plane.

The Sun stated that Harry was refused the chance to get on the plan and was left scrambling for the earliest flight to Scotland. Therefore, this caused a delay for Harry because the Duke of Sussex reportedly arrived in Scotland 90 minutes after the royal family announced the Queen's death.
The Sun stated only King Charles III and Princess Anne got to see the monarch before she passed. Nonetheless, King Charles's and Prince Harry's intervention allegedly caused an argument.
According to Express UK, who spoke to Royal Round-Up host Pandora Forsyth, Mr. Walker of GB News reported that after the royal family quickly announced that Harry would be traveling to Scotland alone, there were many questions.

Walker said the king's decision to exclude Markle caused a quarrel between Harry and his father and thus a delay in the take-off to Scotland. Harry was reportedly the first to leave Balmoral to be with his wife again, even though he was the last to arrive.
However, royal experts have tried to speculate the reason behind King Charles III's decision to have his daughter-in-law banned from joining the family in Balmoral.
High Tensions Might Have Been a Reason for King's Decision
Experts speculated that King Charles III decided it "was not right" to have Markle join the royal family for their last moments with the Queen because of the existing tension between the actress and the Firm.

According to Page Six, the Queen's death came after Markle had an exclusive interview with The Cut and did not say the nicest things about her in-laws.
The "Suits" alum reportedly said just the existence of her and Harry was "upsetting the dynamic of the hierarchy." Therefore, Page Six reported that royal expert Nicholas Witchell said, "She might not be terribly warmly welcomed, to be perfectly candid about it."
Page Six also stated that another expert explained, "Tensions were so high, and there was no way Meghan could have gone to Balmoral."

Despite the rollercoaster of emotions that might have been felt behind the scenes, the king of England extended "an olive branch" to his son Harry, as the reigning monarch of the UK and Commonwealth, in his first public address. He said he sent his love to Harry and his wife as they built their lives overseas.
Harry Reportedly Lost His "Only Ally" in the Royal Family
Despite the arguments that occurred following the Queen's passing, the monarch was reported to have been close to her grandson Harry.

The Sun reported that as Harry traveled alone back to Windsor, a passenger who was on the same plane said he did not move during the flight.
Another passenger reportedly said he looked like he was in deep thought, introspecting and processing the death of his beloved grandmother. But the Sun also stated the passenger expressed that it was sad to see him without the rest of his family.
Harry and his grandmother shared a special connection, and a royal expert even told Mirror that the Duke of Sussex lost his "only ally" in the royal family.

During the public mourning of the monarch, the Sussexes and Wales stood in solidarity to represent the royal family and pay their respects to their grandmother.
According to Mirror, the public was delighted to see this brotherly reconciliation; however, royal experts told the publication that it was "very much temporary."
The Mirror's royal editor Russel Myers claimed that William and King Charles III's efforts to reconcile were like "sticking plasters on a great wound" because there is still a lot that needs to be dismantled in the family.

Myers speculated that there is still a lot of distrust between the brothers, especially from William, even though he extended his brother an invitation to do the Winsdor walkabout.
Though fans were happy to see the "fab four" back together again following the Queen's passing, there is still a lot that the family still has to work through. But fans still hope that the loss of the monarch will bring the royals back together again.
