Harry's grandma was surprised by his wife's wedding dress choice.
Details from Katie Nicholl's "The New Royals" highlights the relationship between the former monarch and Meghan, a one-time divorcee who joined the royal family following her wedding to Harry.
Although the Queen was never known to meddle in other royals' matters and decisions, she often supported the newbies marrying into the family.

So it was not surprising when she decided to know Meghan on a personal level. Reportedly, she had learned about the Duchess's estranged relationship with her dad, Thomas Markle.
According to sources, Thomas had proven difficult following his daughter's involvement with the English royals. He had sold photoshopped images of himself to the media.
In some way, Harry was also on the same boat as his wife. He had maintained a distance from his father-in-law, and they have not met to this day.

Before their wedding, the Queen was concerned and advised the couple. A close pal narrated, "it was the Queen's feeling that Meghan should sort things out with her father and that Harry should have met Thomas before the wedding."
The insider added that the Queen believed the rift could have been handled better. However, despite her thoughts, the wedding was successful; without Thomas's presence, many gathered for the royal event, and fans worldwide watched the ceremony.
Meghan opted for a crisp white Givenchy dress designed by Clare Waight Keller. This surprised the Queen, who had expected the one-time divorcee to wear an off-white dress since she was not a first-time bride.

This has been the tradition for decades, and even Camilla, formerly married before sharing wedding vows with King Charles, picked an off-white wedding dress.
Speaking of traditions, the white dress bears a symbolic mark. It is reserved for a new bride, portraying the woman's purity and virginity on her most memorable day.

Sources noted that everyone was hands-on for the wedding, as it required strength from family members and royal staff. But despite the commitment and contributions, some disputes were present.
The Wedding was Challenging to plan, and the Queen reprimanded Harry
Setting up a royal wedding would take time and weeks of planning. It was not different from Harry and Meghan's except that disputes came up.
Although there have been several accounts of the Sussexes time in the palace, while it may be impossible to know the truth, one thing remains clear, the Queen and her husband were receptive to the younger couple.

For their wedding, there was scheduling, gospel choir, the wedding announcements, and one of the highlights of the moment; the tiara. However, the tiara, among the Queen's jewelry collections, initiated the rift. Meghan had been given the privilege of choosing any tiara from the Queen's collections.
The Duchess opted for Queen Mary's diamond bandeau tiara and wanted her hairstylist to rehearse with the priceless jewelry before D-Day.

But somehow, it never happened as the Queen's dresser, Angela Kelly, who was also in charge of the tiara, was not in town when Meghan invited her hairstylist.
Subsequently, she ignored requests from Kensington Palace to set up a convenient time for the meeting.

According to the details in the bombshell book on the royals, "Finding Freedom," Harry suspected that some palace staff wanted to frustrate Meghan on purpose. It read:
"Nothing could convince Harry that some of the old guards at the palace simply didn't like Meghan and would stop at nothing to make her life difficult."

But there was another truth to the story. An insider shared that the couple displayed entitlement and did not subject to the palace protocol. The source mentioned:
"Meghan demanded access to the tiara. She didn't make an appointment with Angela but said, 'We're at the Buckingham Palace. We want the tiara. Can we have it now please?'"
Reportedly, Kelly maturely responded that there were rules expected to be followed, as the jewelry was kept safe; in "tight lock and key."

This spurred Harry to react in a rather harsh way. He did not subscribe to diplomatic efforts and acted disappointingly to Kelly. Also, his wife was rude to a younger female staff who had helped her draw a plan.
The Queen's dresser reported the matter to the monarch, who scheduled a private meeting to reprimand the Duke. The insider claimed that Harry had been "downright rude" and was "firmly put in his place" by his grandma.

Throughout the planning, there were several reports of Meghan's unpleasant treatment toward the palace staff. It upset the workers badly that they needed intervention to maintain peace in the palace.
Nicholl maintained that the Queen found the moment leading to the wedding "very difficult." It was also said that she was very upset about how Harry treated her.
The Queen was like a Grandma to Meghan
Following the Megxit, the Sussexes have generously shared information about their experiences with the royal family, some of which paints the royals in a bad light.

Nonetheless, their confessions have never labeled the Queen as an uncaring woman. On the contrary, more than once, Meghan has chimed sweet words about the deceased. In her tell-all interview, the Duchess explained that the Queen was kind enough to share her blanket on a cold day. She added:
"It made me think of my grandmother, where she's always been warm and inviting and really welcoming."

Despite the past disputes, Meghan recalled being in awe of the Queen because of how much love Harry had for the monarch before she met her.
After meeting her grandmother-in-law, the Duchess of Sussex extended the respect and honor she had learned from Harry.

Meghan explained that she understood that, indeed, the Queen merited praises. However, at the time, she noted:
"When I met her I had such a deep understanding and of course incredible respect for being able to have that time with her…She's an incredible woman."
