Trinidad Doesn't Approve Some of Her Daughter's Lyrics
Trinidad Valentin's daughter, Saweetie, has a much-anticipated studio album, "Pretty B* Music," in the works. The artist explained that because her Asian side of the family was very strict and reserved, they frowned upon the use of profanity.
So it shocked Valentin when she heard Saweetie use Tagalog swear words in some of the album songs. Saweetie admitted to her actions but understood why Valentin met them with shock. She reportedly explained:
"My mom was really against it. My Asian side, they're very traditional — they were immigrants. So it's like, their culture's a little bit more reserved. So, she was just like, ‘Girl, I can't believe you just said that!'"
Still, Valentin's firstborn felt that making her upcoming album was a deeply personal creative experience. The artist, whose real name is Diamonte Harper Valentin, delves into her roots and explores her identity in the musical project. She explained why she believes "Pretty B* Music" will "humanize her," saying:
"There's just this misconception that I come from perfect beginnings, and I’m just some perfect individual. But it’s like, no. I have feelings just like everyone else. This is just an album that I think it will just humanize me."
