Making it in the entertainment industry is extremely difficult and most people would use whatever connections they have to help themselves.

However, for Saweetie, using her family connections was not something that she was willing to do, choosing instead to try and do it by her self.

Recently, Saweetie has been making some waves in the music industry after she released her song "Tap In." But did you know she is related to actress Gabrielle Union? Her grandfather is also San Fransisco 49ers linebacker, Willie Harper.

During an episode of "Desus & Mero," the star revealed that her family did not even know she was a musician. However, her pride meant that she wanted to be self-made. She said:

"I appreciated that they reached out and was like, ‘We see what you’re doing. Our friends keep talking about you.' So I appreciate the support, but for me, I’ve always been self-motivated. "

After the release of her music, news that she was cousins with Union came out. The pair regularly hangs out with Saweetie performing at the actress' birthday.
