The Lives of Selena Gomez's Parents after Their Divorce
Selena Gomez's parents, Amanda Dawn Cornett, now known as Mandy Teefey and Ricardo Joel Gomez, were only teenagers when they gave birth to their first daughter and only child as a couple. They married the same year, only to divorce after five years.
Selena Gomez is not only an actress and a singer but also a producer, born in Texas on July 22, 1992. She started her acting career at ten when she played the role of Gianna in "Barney & Friends."
She has starred in other movies and series such as "Spy Kids 3: Game Over," "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody," "Rudderless," "Princess Protection Program," "Wizards of Waverly Place," "Another Cinderella Story," and more.

Selena Gomez's Parents Were Young When She Was Born
Selena's parents married in 1992, and at the time, her mother was 16. Mandy gave birth to her daughter that same year and was with Ricardo for five years before they divorced in 1997.
In 2011, when Selena opened up about her parents' divorce, she revealed that she had blamed her mother for it because she craved a family and wanted her parents to be together.
Mandy also revealed that her daughter would vent and yell at her, and there was nothing she could do but apologize. In retrospect, Selena became grateful for the sacrifices her mother made.
She acknowledged that while she did not see the light at the end of the tunnel as a child, her mother's sacrifices to provide a better life for her paid off. Selena said:
"It's because of [my mom] that I can do things on my own. I like being professional. I like showing up on time. I like being good to people, and I know that I'm reflecting her at the end of the day."
Selena Gomez's Mother Was Adopted
Mandy was born in Texas on April 16, 1976, but has Italian ancestry and was an adopted child. As a child, a psychiatrist diagnosed her with bipolar II disorder and, as an adult, ADHD.
She started her career as a Finaling Coordinator at DNA productions before becoming a manager and president at July Moon Productions and founded Kicked to the Curb Productions in 2014.
Until 2014, she was her daughter's manager before they became co-founders and worked together on projects like "13 Reasons Why."
Mandy co-founded Wondermind in 2020 with her daughter and Daniella Pierson, founder of The Newsette, since she has been open about her difficulties with mental health and wanted an inclusive space for others to share within a mental fitness ecosystem.
While promoting their platform in November 2021, Mandy revealed that she had a near-fatal illness as she suffered double pneumonia, and the doctors informed her that she had days to live.
She further remarked that she was glad to be alive despite people's comments about her weight gain. Selena's mother was thankful for the "miracle doctors" and the love from family and friends.
Selena Gomez's Father Is of Mexican Descent
Selena's father is of Mexican origin, and there is very little information about him. However, he has a close relationship with his daughter.
When she was seven, Ricardo Joel Gomez would take her to watch Spurs games at Hooters. The spot became their thing, especially as some of the female servers would hit on him when she was around.
When his daughter turned 13 and asked him for a promise ring, Ricardo got one, went to the church, and got it blessed. However, when she got older, Selena stopped wearing it even though she respected the ring and what it represented.
Selena Gomez's Parents Started New Families
Years after their divorce, Selena's parents found love with other people and started new families. On May 18, 2006, Mandy married Brian Teefey.
Brian is a talent manager who once managed Selena while her mother was her manager. He and Mandy lost 16 weeks of pregnancy on December 16, 2011, before welcoming their first daughter Gracie Elliot Teefey, on June 12, 2013.
Before the arrival of their baby, Selena was excited about becoming a big sister, taking to Twitter to share the news while calling her mother the best in the world.
Ricardo also remarried on November 9, 2012, to Sara Tovar Gomez, born on August 11, 1981. It is unclear if she was previously married, but she was a single mother to a son, Marcus Reyes, from a previous relationship.
There is no information about what she does, but the couple welcomed their daughter, Victoria "Tori" Gomez, on June 24, 2014, making her the second half-sister Selena has.
Selena Gomez's Relationship with Her Parents
Since her parents divorced, Selena has had a relatively good relationship with her mother. She has supported and has been there for Mandy through the good and bad times.
Despite the rumors that her mother disapproved of her relationship with Justin Bieber, thereby causing a rift between them, Mandy had only disagreed with Selena over her career.
On the other hand, Selena's relationship with her father has reportedly been strained. They rarely post pictures of each other on their social media pages, even though her father posts pictures of his new family on his page.
The mother-and-daughter relationship improved because Mandy learned that parenting her daughter the way she needed to be parented when she was younger was not working. They both had to learn how to recommunicate.
When asked for parenting advice, Selena's mother wanted parents to listen to their children and do the work alongside them. She remarked that parents needed to learn how to speak and love their children according to the child's needs.
