Catherine Deneuve is considered one of the greatest European actresses. She just turned 79 and has aged as gracefully as her career.

Deneuve has been creating impeccable films since the 60s and remains relevant. One of her famous films from back in the day is the 1964 movie "The Umbrellas Of Cherbourg," a romantic musical that follows a Parisian couple that faces complications to keep their love alive.

In 2019 Deneuve was the star of "The Truth," a film about a famous author reconnecting with her daughter from New York, and the reconciliation comes with confrontations and conflicts that needed to be exposed.

Huff Post praised the actress for her relevance and the beauty that she has carried throughout her career. Deneuve is described as a "fiercely private" person that ensured that her job was never connected to any tabloids.

"The Hustlers" star has been admired for her beauty and mysterious persona, even one of her co-stars, Burt Reynolds admitted he was "enamored" by her, stated Independent.

But when asked what the secret behind her graceful aging is, Deneuve was humble yet honest about her answer. She first admitted that aging was not something she liked, but she did not go out of her way to fight it. Now that the actress is a mother and a grandmother, it gives her a reason to look at life differently.

Catherine Deneuve Believes That Marriage Is a Trap

Deneuve has built her name around being an independent woman. The actress was only married once to British photographer David Bailey.

The former couple met at a photo shoot in the '60s and were an adored couple of the time, and they divorced in 1972. But after her seven-year relationship with Bailey, Deneuve went on record and declared that "marriage was a trap," stated The Advocate.

While Deneuvue's career was growing, Bailey was also becoming a respected photographer. He got a life-changing opportunity when he worked for Playboy.

The photographer was highlighted among other prominent photographers in the 60s and 70s in the Guardian, where he also spoke about the end of his relationship with Deneuve.

Bailey said their break up was not sad because their busy schedules naturally drifted apart. He stated that he worked in London, and she was in Paris, so the distance played a role.

However, after their divorce, Bailey said Deneuve called him and said, "'Oh, Bailey, it's great.' 'What's great?' 'We got divorced today.' I said, 'Is that great?' She said, 'Yes, it means now we can be lovers.'"

Another reason that led to Bailey and Deneuve's separation was the language barrier, as reported by the Evening Standard. Bailey reportedly never learned French, and speaking English became a daunting chore for Deneuve. But after her divorce, Deneuve built a life that gave her freedom and independence.

However, author Bernard Violet claimed that Deneuve had spent her life alone, fighting to be respected, and believed she was too closed off to be happy.

But Deneuve did not have to go through life alone; the actress has two children but never married their fathers. At 19, the actress fell in love with director Roger Vadim, and they had a son together, Christian, now 48.

"The Truth" star said it was important to her to nurture these relationships and admitted that sometimes she puts her family and friends above work.

Deneuve is now a grandmother of five; she teased that they do not call her grandma. She did not reveal the name but hinted, "It's short, very nice, and private."

Regarding how she's 79 and still active, the actress admitted that she liked sports but tried to keep healthy by working on her garden and being around her grandchildren.

Two of her grandchildren have followed in Deneuve's footsteps. Milo Thoretton was born in 1996 in Paris and has acted in the film, "Tourist Office."

The second actor's grandchild is Anna Biolay, born in 2003 in Paris. She has appeared in the films, "Doutes: Chronique du sentiment politique" (2013), "Stella in Love" (2022), and "Chevrotine" (2022).

Another one of Deneuve's grandsons has found himself in a rock and hard place. According to The Telegraph, 32-year-old Igor Vadim was arrested in Paris, where he grew up, in 2020.
