Many celebs in Hollywood have begun welcoming their children at late stages, and SJP was one of them. Her son was only welcomed into her family when she was in her late 30s. She has often spoken about her child.
While the actress is proud to talk about her son, she keeps other details about him and her private life under wraps. She and her husband of 25 years have been notoriously quiet about their lives.
However, SJP broke her general silence on her son's 20th birthday this year. She took to Instagram to wish the young man a happy birthday and share her feelings on him finally turning 20.
SJP shared three photos of her son when he was a young boy. He is doing something different in each image, but in all of the images, he is the sole focus. She accompanied the photos with a heartfelt caption.
She mentioned that he had changed her life and added color and dimension that she had not known before. She also told the boy that she loved him and said a new adventure was about to begin.
How SJP Became a Mom at 37
SJP and her husband of 25 years, Matthew Broderick, came together in 1991 because they both loved the theatre. By 1997 they had married. However, it took a few years for them to start their family.

In 2002, SJP and Broderick welcomed their son into the world. They decided to name their son James after Broderick's father. Talking about welcoming her son, SJP said:
"I'm very well. He's perfect."
She also joked with fans, press, and paparazzi that gathered when she left the hospital with her baby. She thanked them for caring enough to be there and then said she suspected it was a slow news week.

James is SJP and Broderick's only child and was named after his grandfather as James Senior was a theatre actor. He starred in the 1970s series, "Family," and passed away in 1981, many years before his namesake was born.
What SJP and Broderick Taught James
Although SJP and Broderick were enamored with their little boy, they kept him out of the spotlight. He was seldom seen out with them, and until recently, no photos were shared.

Yet the couple still spoke about their son in interviews. In one interview, SJP
, "He's the light of my life." She said that even though he challenged her sometimes, she loved being a mother, and he was a good child.
While both James' parents are famous, SJP said she did not raise him to be spoiled. In fact, she never bought him clothing, and he only wore hand-me-downs. She bought him shoes because she believed everyone's feet were different, though.

She also said she would not allow her son to believe he had money just because she and her husband did. She said:
"My husband and me… show James Wilkie by example what it means to owe your community something and that he is not entitled to the benefits of our hard work."

admitted that she was her son's primary caregiver when he was younger. She did duties like putting him to bed, taking him to school, and reminding him to brush his teeth. She also enjoyed spending quality time with him, though.
