Many remember Jason Momoa as the guy who played Khal Drogo in the all-time favorite epic series "Game of Thrones." This remains one of his most significant roles, but before then, he had starred in "Stargate: Atlantis," and "Baywatch Hawaii."

This remarkable TV talent, with his stunning physique, piercing eyes, and commanding voice, was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Coni Lemke and Joseph Momoa. His parents named him Joseph Jason Namakeaha (translates as all-seeing eyes).

His parents possessed incredible talents. Coni, of German and Irish descent, worked as a photographer, while Joseph, a Hawaiian, was a talented painter.

Despite their divorce, Momoa spent time with his dad during summers and inherited his artistic bloodline. He was also exposed to travel at an early age.

However, the actor was raised by his mother, with whom he shares a solid bond. Growing up, he also related with his maternal grandmother, and their relationship remained unshakable till her death. Momoa attended high school in Iowa before moving to Hawaii for his university education. That was when his story changed.

Takeo Kobayashi, a leading international designer, spotted the young man, whose unique features, looks, and build were suitable for the runway.

In 1999, Momoa was crowned the Hawaiian Model of the Year and later walked for big names like Louis Vuitton at the Governor's Fashion Show.

Amid the wave of successes that came after, the actor maintained faith in his roots and respected his family. Momoa often visited his maternal grandmother, Mabel, and they engaged in video calls whenever he was away.

"Got to FaceTime my grandma for the first time as Aquaman…#grandmasboy #missyougrams."

To the world, he was an actor, but to Mabel, he was a comedian who enjoyed making her laugh. Momoa admitted his hurt by not having her around to watch his latest movie.

Fans would remember an early January post three years ago when the actor paid an unannounced visit to his hometown after taking some time off work. He shared two adorable photos of the grandson and grandmother bond.

In one of the happy snaps, The "Game of Thrones" star leaned closely into the older adult, and they twinned with their wide-eyed-grins as she placed one of her hands on his face.

Another image was a back view of the team sitting in front of a closed window, seemingly enjoying each other's company and the natural scenery. He wrote:

"Needed to come home to Iowa and give my grams some aloha. Love u forever grandma."

Momoa's visiting time was shared with other members of his extended family, including his cousins, nieces, and nephews. He also patrolled the town with friends, visiting old diners and driving past his high school.

He also did an entire shoot detailing his experience/bond in pictures. The actor warmed hearts as he wheeled Mabel around the place and helped her get comfortable.

Following the trip, Momoa chronicled the ever-green moments via a YouTube clip. He excitedly shared his mission and what he realized. In his words:

"I came home to see my grandma. She's still got it. She's still got her spirit. It was awesome seeing her and seeing my whole family on my mom's side."

Interestingly, Momoa is overwhelmed by his love for his grandma, and his appreciation of her goes beyond frequent visits. To honor her, the actor named his 1947 Harley Davidson Chopper after her.

Jason Momoa Honors His Grandmother on Her First Death Anniversary

Mabel may be gone, but she is never forgotten, not by her famous grandson, who upholds her memories privately and publicly. It has been a year since she died, but Momoa still remembered to honor her on her first death anniversary. A few hours ago, the actor shared an Instagram post declaring how much fun he shared with her.

To the world, he was an actor, but to Mabel, he was a comedian who enjoyed making her laugh. Momoa admitted his hurt by not having her around to watch his latest movie.

The actor was away giving a speech to the UN when news of her passing reached him. In his caption, he apologized for being absent when it happened.
