The "Carry On" star, who fought in World War II from 1943 in the Royal Artillery as a Second Lieutenant, had appeared in many films. After featuring in "Carry On," the actor starred in "Tomb Raider," "Doctor in the House," and "Midsomer Murders."
The first time the legendary actor appeared on the West End stage was when he was fourteen. The last time Leslie acted was eighty years later when he did the voice-over work as the sorting hat in "Harry Potter."

The iconic actor was well-known for his various catchphrases in the "Carry On" movies, including "Well, Hello," "Ding Dong," and "I Say." The star's wife was highly torn up about the loss.
How Leslie Phillips' Wife Reacted to His Death?
The Sun revealed how Leslie's wife, Zara Carr, then 63, paid tribute to her late husband. The emotional widow said, "I've lost a wonderful husband, and the public has lost a truly great showman."
Carr continued mourning her partner, saying, "He was quite simply a national treasure. People loved him. He was mobbed everywhere he went." She also revealed how he "cheekily" introduced her to the media as royalty after marriage!
Leslie insisted that his wife was the new Zara Phillips and was related to the late British Queen. In a 2013 piece, the comedian, who was married thrice, shared how he fell for his wife after she was kind to him as he grieved for his second wife.
The star said he'd never intended on marrying again, but Carr, who knew Leslie's ex-wife, Angela Scoular, stole his heart. He and the social worker became close after the 2011 loss, where Scoular, then 65, died by suicide after her terminal bowel cancer diagnosis.
Two-and-a-half years later, Leslie was looking forward to being with Carr for the rest of his life. The star, who eventually married his third wife and divorcee, proudly shared this about her:
"She looked after me during that very difficult time after Angela died, and she was wonderful."

Leslie revealed that Carr lived close to him and would visit to check if he was looking after himself. He elaborated on the matter, stating, "That's the kind of person she is. She looks after everyone, and she looked after me."
However, the actor confessed that he and Carr didn't fall in love immediately because they first became friends before their romantic feelings slowly developed. That year, the star shared how they'd gotten six months before.

Carr's husband said their wedding day was emotional but happy because he loved her "to bits." The actor shared that thinking about getting married again at age 89 might've sounded absurd, but it felt right, and he was happy!

How Leslie Phillips' Wife Saved His Life?
Leslie's character on "Carry On" was quite fond of women, and he joked that the movies would "follow him to the grave." In early 2022, the actor spoke about the times he survived two strokes eight years before, telling the Mirror:
"I'm too young to pop off just yet. I've got everything to live for."

On his way from shopping on Oxford Street, Leslie was on a bus near his north London home in Maida Vale when he suffered his first stroke. His wife, who was with him, was the one who alerted everyone, and doctors said he wouldn't have survived if she hadn't.
Carr recalled how he suddenly leaned on her, and she couldn't put the bus ticket back into his coat. He complained of horrible pain in his left arm, and that's when his wife stopped the bus and called an ambulance.

The comedian was taken to Euston's University College Hospital and recovered. However, six months later, he suffered a second minor stroke, but his wife was again on hand, and this time she resuscitated him!
Having had a minor seizure, Leslie turned black and blue but didn't die. Carr's quick thinking in both instances allowed her husband to live for eight more years before his death, two years before celebrating the star's hundredth birthday.
