Collins leaves his fiancée for a thinner, more beautiful woman only days before their wedding. Unfortunately, his new bride is far from what he expected, and soon he is faced with the hard truth. He regrets leaving the woman that genuinely loved him.

Collins was already seated at the cafe when his fiancée Ava joined him. He had chosen a window seat and sipped his steaming coffee as he threw occasional glances at the landscape outside.

Ava had been caught up at work and was running late. As soon as she entered the small cafe, she spotted her fiancé and quickly joined him.

"Hi baby, I'm sorry I'm late," she muttered, almost out of breath.

"That's okay. What will you have?" he asked, pulling out a chair for her.

The lovebirds had known each other for years. They grew up together in the suburbs and attended the same elementary and high school.

They had been friends for the longest time, but as soon as they graduated high school, they both realized they felt a little more than friendship for each other. They started dating and were well on their way to getting married.

Plans were underway, and they were meeting to polish up on the fine details of their big day. Ava was ecstatic! She would finally become Mrs. Collins, and the thought put a smile on her face.

"I'll have a coffee and a donut," she said to the waiter, a smile plastered on her face. Turning her attention back to Collins, she said, "Honey, I think everything is in place. We only need to put up the last deposit for the venue, and we will be ready to go. I can't wait to be your wife!"

"A job? A job? I can't get a job! Do you want me to be tired after work and my beauty to fade?"

Collins stared intently at Ava before replying, "That will not be necessary, Ava."

"What do you mean? We have to lock down the venue, or else it won't be available."

"I know, but I won't be going through with the wedding."

"I don't understand..." said Ava, confused.

"I hate to tell you this to your face, but I have found someone else! Someone thinner and prettier."

Ava spat out the coffee in her mouth from the sheer shock plastered on her face. "Excuse me? What do you mean you found someone else? We get married in three days!"

"We are not getting married. I love another woman, Ava," Collins said. "I met the most beautiful woman and fell instantly in love. She is younger and more beautiful!"

Ava was sobbing so hard she did not hear anything else that came out of Collins' mouth, even as he went on and on about how beautiful Rachel was. She worked at the jewelry store, and Collins had met her when he went shopping for his and Ava's wedding rings.

"How could you, Collins? We've been together for years, and you want to leave me three days before our wedding?" she cried.

"I'm sorry, but you don't seem to care about your body. Look at you!"

Ava could not take any more of the insults. She angrily stood up and stormed out of the cafe.

A year and a few months passed, and Ava still mourned her lost love. She wasn't one to wish anyone the worst, and when she heard that Collins was getting married to Rachel, she knew she would attend the wedding to wish him well.

It did not go as expected. Ava went to the venue uninvited, and once Collins saw her, he was furious! "What are you doing here? We did not invite you!"

"Collins, I still love you, and I came to wish you a good life."

"You annoy me! Get out!" he screamed at her, asking the security men to throw her out.

Days after Collins and Rachel exchanged vows in the gorgeous ceremony, they jetted to the Maldives for their honeymoon.

Collins was ecstatic about starting a new life with the gorgeous young woman he had just married, and the future looked promising. He would do anything for her, that much he knew.

And so, months later, when Rachel complained about their small house, Collins knew he had to do something about their situation.

"Only losers live in a house like this! I don't want to live with a loser!" she fumed.

That was an easy problem to solve. Collins would work more hours to make a little more money so they could afford a bigger house. After all, he wanted to give his wife the perfect life and everything she wanted she would get.

Collins was happy. He could not believe this beautiful woman was his wife. Sadly, he began noticing patterns that made him question her true intentions.

One day, after a hard day at work, Collins found Rachel lying on the couch. "Hi, baby? How was your day?" he asked, kissing her cheek.

"Collins, I'm bored to death! I can't live like this!"

"Maybe you can get a job to keep you busy during the day," he suggested innocently.

"A job? A job? I can't get a job! Do you want me to be tired after work and my beauty to fade?"

"You don't need to look for a very tiring one, just one to keep you a little busy," Collins suggested.

"I'm not getting a job. It would help if you worked harder to pay for a better life. I need to travel more!"

Collins was shocked but let it pass. However, throughout the night, Rachel kept nagging him, asking him to fund her travels to only the fanciest destinations.

Collins was exhausted from working extra hours from all her nagging and from trying to provide Rachel with the lifestyle she demanded. Resigning to fate, he asked her to pack her bags as he would pay for a trip to Europe. Days later, he drove her to the airport.

He found it hard to admit, but he was exhausted. Between all of Rachel's demands and working so much, he had only so much strength left. Once he dropped her off at the airport, he headed back to his car and drove to work to start his second shift of the day. However, the unthinkable happened.

Collins woke up in the hospital confused. His last recollection was being at work. "How did I get here?" he asked the nurse.

"You were brought in unconscious, sir. But you have nothing to be worried about. You were just a little tired and stressed. However, we will have to keep you under observation for a few days."

He called his wife to give her the news, but she did not seem to care. She was having too much fun in Europe, so his problems took a back seat. She also did not remember that it was his birthday.

As soon as he got off the call, he realized he had married the most selfish woman that ever lived at the expense of the feelings of a woman who had genuinely cared for him.

As if on cue, Ava called him to wish him a wonderful birthday like she did every year. That's when she learned he was in the hospital. She rushed to be with him, and Collins could not believe he had let go of this gem.

Ava took care of him, visiting him in the hospital every day until he was discharged. On his final day there, he crawled on his knees and begged Ava to forgive him.

"I made the worst mistake of my life, Ava. I should have never left you. You are truly the only woman that can make me happy," he said, cupping her face in his hands. "Will you ever forgive me?"

"Yes, of course. All is forgiven. You do realize I've never stopped loving you." A few days later, after he had fully recovered, Collins asked Ava out on a date and proposed to her.

He said he would divorce Rachel, and they would get married like they were supposed to in the first place. He then presented her with the most beautiful engagement ring she had ever seen. Ava would finally have the life she always desired with Collins.

Rachel attempted to call asking for more money from Collins, but all he had to say to her was never to return and that he would be divorcing her. Collins and Ava went on to have a gorgeous wedding and live a fulfilling, happy life together.

  • Inner beauty will always surpass outer beauty. Collins thought that marrying a prettier and slimmer woman was his ticket to happiness but soon found that was not the case.
  • The truth will always come to light. Rachel pretended to be a good wife to win Collins's affection, while she was only after the posh lifestyle gave her. Soon the truth came to light.
