Actor Rainn Wilson and his wife, Holiday Reinhorn, are the proud parents of a son, Walter McKenzie Wilson. Aware of just how difficult life can be for the offspring of a celebrity, the couple has raised their son away from the public eye.

Walter's public appearances have been rare throughout his childhood, but now that he has become a teen, he has been featured in a series of Instagram posts as he roams around the globe with his famous family.

Rainn and Holiday married in 1995 and welcomed baby Walter in 2004. Walter is the couple's only child, and his parents understandably protect him. Photos of Walter are rare, and as a child, he was hardly ever featured on his parents' social media posts.

Fortunately for his parents, Walter is now quite grownup, and their favorite traveling companion on their jaunts to exotic destinations.

Since Rainn became a household name after starring as Dwight Schrute in the cult comedy series "The Office," which started when Walter was one year old, he did his best to keep his son out of the limelight.

Walter McKenzie Wilson's Parents Decided He Should Have an "Unusual" Name Like Theirs

When their baby was born, Holiday and Rainn, who both have unusual first names, gave his name a great deal of thought and finally decided on Walter McKenzie Wilson. The actor revealed in an interview:

“It’s a nice, old-fashioned name, and it sounds good. Walter Wilson—very presidential.”

The couple raised their son in a lovely mission-style house outside Los Angles with a stunning view of the Pacific Ocean, and their household includes two pet pigs.

Walter McKenzie Wilson Once Reminded His Dad of Working with Steve Carell

Rainn jokingly compared raising Walter to working with his "The Office" co-star, Steve Carell. He revealed that as a toddler, Walter hated going to bed and would invent excuses to call his parents. Rainn shared:

"We put him in the crib and then we go downstairs and then we hear this very plaintive voice from upstairs, trying his damnedest to convince us to come back upstairs and get him out of bed."

Rainn and Holiday would have to harden their hearts, especially when little Walter would beg for a hug. Fortunately for his parents, Walter is now quite grown up and their favorite traveling companion on their jaunts to exotic destinations.

Walter McKenzie Wilson Stays Away from the Public Eye but Loves to Travel around the World

Rainn and Holiday may have kept Walter out of sight, but he's not locked in his room --in fact, he's quite the world traveler, and he's accompanied his parents on several traveling adventures.

Walter spent in 2017 Thanksgiving holidays horseriding with mom and dad in Iceland's spectacular Westfjords; in 2018, it was South Kensington in the United Kingdom. This summer, the family interacted with elephants in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The family has also shared snaps on Instagram from less exotic locations, like a Blockbuster in Bend, Oregon, and a family selfie taken in the hills of California.

Does Walter McKenzie Wilson Watch "The Office"?

Rainn revealed that Walter only started watching "The Office" when he was 16, and then only for a short time. When he asked his son why he didn't like watching the series, Walter confessed:

"Dad, I want you to be my dad, I don't want you to be Dwight."

Walter McKenzie Wilson has grown up as a normal kid with a normal life, and for him, his father is not a star or a famous actor: he's just a dad, and a great one too.
