My Husband Dumped Me for Being ‘Too Skinny’ after I Lost 200 Lbs to Get Pregnant — My Story

Molly felt insecure about her weight for most of her childhood and early adulthood. After meeting her husband, she began to gain confidence. Little did she know that he would leave her after she lost weight to give birth to their daughter. Years later, she would learn the repercussions of his actions.

Growing up, my mother often told me that our scars had a way of encouraging or mocking us, depending on how we chose to look at them.

"The choice is yours, Molly," she would say.

I never really did understand what she meant by that until later on in life. As a child, I was very self-conscious and insecure about my weight. I was an overweight teenager and often got teased by my peers because of this.

As a result, I thought it was impossible for me to find someone to love me for who I was. Later on in life, I would luckily find someone who did exactly that.

Adam and I met in our early twenties, and I immediately fell for him. I had never been looked at in the way Adam looked at me. He didn't just look past my flaws and the things about myself that I believed made me undesirable, but he loved me all the more for them.

Being with Adam was an absolute dream. He helped ignite a confidence I never thought I had. In his eyes, I wasn't the overweight woman to be pitied or ridiculed; I was simply beautiful.

However, while I was growing more confident about my physical appearance, my weight was beginning to take a toll on my health. I would not realize just how bad things were until Adam and I married.

"Molly, I'm afraid your weight may be a problem, and I strongly recommend you lose some weight before trying for a baby. If not, you could risk having major pregnancy complications. Believe me, it would be the best option for you and the baby,"

Shortly after tying the knot, Adam and I started planning to expand our little family and have children. Full of the joys of spring, Adam and I couldn't wait to start building our family and set up a meeting with the doctor straight away.

Adam and I sat nervously in the doctor's office, waiting on him to give us the green light to start trying for a baby. As he walked in, I could already tell something was wrong by the feigned smile on his face.

"So, the test results are good. Both of you are fertile; that's good. However..." the doctor said.

"However?" I interrupted nervously.

"Love, please. Let the doctor speak," Adam chimed in, reassuringly holding my hand.

"Molly, I'm afraid your weight may be a problem, and I strongly recommend you lose some weight before trying for a baby. If not, you could risk having major pregnancy complications. Believe me, it would be the best option for you and the baby," the doctor said.

At that moment, I felt like my weight was mocking me once again, and all that confidence I had built up had jumped out the window. I had learned to feel comfortable in my own skin, but my own skin still seemed to be a liability at this point.

I recalled my mother's words, "The choice is yours, Molly," and decided I'd choose to be encouraged and make the pregnancy work for both me and Adam. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but my mind was made up. Adam looked forward to being a father, and I wasn't about to hinder that in any way.

"You've lost all this weight, Molly! This is not the woman I fell in love with.

In a year, I lost 200 lbs, and 9 months later, I delivered a beautiful baby girl, Anna. Adam was ecstatic to be a father and was very good at it too. However, he became very distant towards me for some reason.

He became less affectionate, and as time progressed, he stopped touching me altogether. I had initially thought it naturally happened after a significant life change and that he was just trying to adjust like myself. However, I would later learn that wasn't the case.

Without warning, Adam came home one day and told me he wanted a separation. My heart sunk into my gut instantly.

"A separation? I—I... I don't understand," I said, desperately trying to gather my words.

"Molly, you're not the person I fell in love with. This is not what I signed up for," he said.

"Adam, what are you saying?" I asked timidly.

"You've lost all this weight, Molly! This is not the woman I fell in love with. You're too... too slim! You're not the woman I was attracted to," Adam barked.

"B—but I'm still me, love. It's still me! I did this for you... for us!"

"I—I don't understand, Adam. I... Maybe..." I said dejectedly, drowning in my own tears and lost for words.

He told me he would be staying at a motel and then got up and left. I could not believe what I was hearing. After everything I had sacrificed for him, for our family, this is how he was repaying me?

Again, I had to draw strength from my mother's teachings, asking myself, "What will you choose, Molly?" I decided I'd choose not to be mocked but encouraged to move forward the best way I could.

And so, I later called Adam and let him know that I'd respect his decision but forbade him from seeing Anna. He tried arguing with me, but I was having none of it.

As time progressed, I focused more on my health and eventually became a fitness trainer. I saw how my story and my scars encouraged others, and this soon became the foundation of my confidence.

I'll never forget the look on his face when we first saw each other after all that time.

My career began to flourish, and I was pleased with my work and health. Building others up helped me in regaining my own strength as well, and I began to understand my mother's teachings even better and passed them down to Anna the best I could.

2 years had passed since Adam and my separation, and I was in a far better place career-wise and in my personal life.

One day, I was scheduled to meet with a new client. I was already fully booked, but a slot had somehow opened up, so I decided to take on someone new. Little did I know that someone would turn out to be Adam.

I'll never forget the look on his face when we first saw each other after all that time. It was probably the longest thirty seconds of my life. A part of me wanted to leave then and there, but I had done a great deal of healing over the years and had the strength to see the session through.

We didn't talk much during the session, but he asked me for coffee afterward. I decided to take the high road and hear him out.

Adam explained how he tried to find another woman over the years, but after multiple failed attempts, he realized that I was the only one who had his heart, regardless of my weight. He was ashamed of what he had done and wanted to reach out to me but never found the courage to do so.

He went through severe depression and gained weight. This led to health issues, so he decided to join the gym.

"I was a fool for what I did, and I can never apologize enough for that."

"Somewhere along the line, I forgot that it was your spirit that I fell in love with, not your body."

"Please forgive me, Molly," Adam said as he gazed at me with that look I had once known all so well.

What Adam and I shared was once truly beautiful, and it would be great for Anna to have her parents together again. However, it took a lot to get over what Adam did to me, and I don't know if I could go through that again. What do you think? Should I forgive him?
