The COVID-19 pandemic has brought tough times to millions of families worldwide. While some families chose to quarantine together, others had no choice but to be apart from their loved ones because of the pandemic protocols.

For senior citizen Bonnie Pitman, she had to be separated from her son David Gelles and her granddaughter Franny for fourteen months amidst the pandemic. According to her son David, Bonnie had been really sick, which meant being unable to see her grandchildren.

"Everyone knows how strong a mother’s love is, but when you become a grandmother it is only amplified. You have more patience, more time, and a wonderful chance to correct what you didn’t know how to do right the first time. The elderly are crucial to our youngsters." – @PatriciaLavatai (April 25, 2021)

"Good lord I sobbed and sobbed watching this. I'm so happy for you and her (and I obviously don't know you and feel slightly creepy at weeping for a half hour over this). Thank you for sharing this moment." – @mayhewbergman (April 23, 2021)

Using their Platform for Good

After catching the attention of thousands of people, David made sure to plug his daughter Franny's favorite charity, Feeding America. She asked those touched by their story to donate any amount to the organization, which aims to end hunger in the country.

They were also invited to speak to Chris Cuomo on CNN, where Bonnie shared just how much the surprise meant to her. "My heart exploded!" she told them.

Their interview aimed to continue sharing the love with others, especially at a time when many could only hope to be reunited with their families amidst the pandemic.

The COVID-19 pandemic has taught the world many things, and one is to be grateful and appreciative of our families. Time is gold, and time certainly flies, so it's important to show everyone we care just how much we love them before it's too late.
