After a brutal divorce, she became unrecognizable to her friends. But now, she was able to find the strength to work again.
Shelley Long first became famous for her role in "Cheers." These days, however, the actress is rarely seen in public, and her time on "Modern Family" was the last role she accepted. Instead of living the glamorous Hollywood lifestyle like her co-stars, Long has completely retreated from the public eye.
On the rare occasions when she is seen outside, the actress prefers to dress exactly like anybody else instead of the expensive and elaborate outfits so regularly associated with the famous faces of Hollywood. It seems she has traded her acting life for something much more commonplace.

Most recently, the actress was seen taking her pet Chihuahua for a walk in Los Angeles. After walking for a while, Long stopped for a break and relaxed on a nearby bench while her dog sniffed around and explored the park. The actress was wearing a regular grey jacket over a blue top, jeans, and Nike shoes.
After leaving the show, Long said she missed being on it, but she never regretted her decision to move on.

Despite her absence from television, Long has an impressive number of roles to her name. Throughout the years, she has appeared in various TV shows, always as a guest character. She also had a permanent role in "The Brady Bunch Movie" and "A Very Brady Sequel."
Shelley Long Dedicated Her Life to Only Daughter
At the height of her career, while playing Diane Chambers, Long decided to leave the cast of the show "Cheers." She wanted to pursue a career in film rather than television, and she also wanted to spend more time with her daughter. She landed roles in three different movies, but she was less successful than when she worked in TV.
In 2003, Long faced one of the most challenging times in her life when her husband of 22 years decided to file for divorce.

She shared a daughter, Juliana Tyson, with her former husband, Bruce Tyson. After she took a break from acting, she decided to invest all her time in her daughter. Although she thoroughly enjoyed her time on "Cheers," she said it was time for her to experience something new. She felt her role was becoming stale.
After leaving the show, Long said she missed being on it, but she never regretted her decision to move on. Besides caring for her young daughter, Long's life took a turn when she overdosed on pain medication. She explained that the experience made her look at life differently.

After being hospitalized, she realized just how delicate life is, and complications with her mother's health also contributed to her appreciating the life she had more. So, Long decided to focus on family, and she has kept her life private ever since. The actress was previously photographed in public in 2019.
She Barely Survived the Divorce from the Father of Her Child
In 2003, Long faced one of the most challenging times in her life when her husband of 22 years decided to file for divorce. After the separation, Long was left dejected and depressed, and friends commented that she was barely eating. It was during this time that she was hospitalized after her overdose. A friend remarked:
"It is very sad to see this woman, who is only 55, looking like she's turning 90."

Many people who were close to Long at the time of the overdose suspected it was done intentionally, seeing as she barely got out of bed due to her emotional state. Luckily, the experience turned her life around, and the actress commented on how it affected her:
"It made me rethink things. Also my mother's fragility and mortality have made me consider my own… It makes me think of fond memories and great times in the past and also how short life is."

Long's former husband refused to talk about her near-death experience, but he remained adamant that she would recover from the divorce, saying simply, "She's OK." Tyson also believed the overdose was intentional but said he knew she would make it through the ordeal.
And it seems Long did make it through the divorce and has landed on her feet once more. She has returned to acting, starring in the 2021 film, "The Cleaner," and she landed a role in the 2022 movie, "Give Me Pity!"
