Roseanne Barr Picks Oranges and Dances with Beloved Grandchildren — Her Quiet Hawaiian Farm Life
Roseanne Barr is a happy grandmother with six grandchildren whom she loves to spend time with. The actress was among the stars who left California to live a happy life away from Hollywood, and over the years, she's done her own farm renovations that cost almost two million dollars.
On November 3, 1952, Roseanne Cherrie Barr was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. The future star dropped out of high school and moved to Colorado, where she lived in an artists' colony before getting married and starting a family in Denver.
Due to her friends, Barr was encouraged to start doing stand-up comedy. In 1985, she had a successful and impressive appearance on "The Tonight Show," which launched her to fame.

Three years later, she was the star of the series, "Roseanne," where she featured as the Conner family matriarch and won an Emmy Award for her role in 1993. She later starred in other television shows like 1998's "The Roseanne Show."
In 2011, the actress appeared in a reality series, "Roseanne's Nuts," which chronicled her life in Hawaii as a macadamia nut farmer. Besides television, she was also featured in some movies, including 1989's "She-Devil," 1993's "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues," and 1995's "Blue in the Face."
In 2018, she reprised her role in the "Roseanne" reboot, which only initially had nine episodes but was a success and was renewed for another season.
However, that year in May, she made a controversial statement about former President Barack Obama's adviser, Valerie Jarrett, and got criticized. Although she apologized, ABC canceled the series, and later recreated the show without her, naming it "The Conners."
Roseanne's Family Dynamics
Besides being a famous actor and comedian, the star was also a parent and grandparent. After taking time off Hollywood, Barr decided to focus her energy on her five children. On rare occasions, she shares social media photos of her children: Jessica, Jennifer, Jake, Buck, and Brandi.

The actress chose to stay out of the spotlight since her sitcom was canceled and recreated without her, and instead, she's made memories with her children. In April 2021, the star's family grew once more when a baby girl was born to Jake. On an Instagram photo of Jake and his wife holding their newborn baby, Barr noted they'd welcomed "New family."
The first time the star became a mother was in May 1971, when Brandi was born. The "Home on the Range" actress gave her daughter up for adoption, and another family raised her.
However, in 1988, the pair finally reunited, and by then, Barr already had another family with Bill Pentland, her first husband.
The star and Pentland married in 1974, and Jessica was welcomed the following year. Jennifer was born in 1976. Two years later, Jake joined the family, but sadly, Barr and her husband divorced in 1990.
Not long after her divorce, she married fellow actor Tom Arnold, who she would also later divorce in 1994. The actress fell for Ben Thomas the following year, and they married that same year before welcoming Buck.
Barr created a blended family with her children and made them her priority. In July 2021, she joked about the latest grandchild being her "mini-me" because they shared similar personalities, with the actress hilariously writing:
“[She has the] 'my husband said he needed more space, so I locked him outside' attitude."
Barr ended up relocating to Hawaii to a house where she took care of everything herself. The home also happened to be where she started a new life with someone special.
Barr's Move from Los Angeles to Hawaii and the Man in Her Life
In September 2021, it was revealed that Barr had listed one of her two El Segundo, California homes for $3.5 million. The actress had bought the four-bedroom four-bathroom home in 2003 for $1.17 million.
The house had a chef's kitchen with the latest appliances, a view of the mountains and coastline, an elevator, two fireplaces, remodeled bathrooms with Carrera-honed marble tiles, and a sauna.
After the Jarrett scandal, Barr moved permanently to a 47-acre Honokaa farm in Hawaii.
Living out of the limelight, the actress enjoyed a quieter life with her longtime boyfriend, Johnny Argent in the island home. The 2,212-square-foot ranch, with three bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms, was purchased in March 2007 for $1.78 million.
In April 2021, Barr gave her fans a glimpse into the vastness of her property via an Instagram photo. Followers had also seen her garden in another post, and in a video where Argent played the piano, they saw her living room and the green walls she'd painted.
On her YouTube channel, the Emmy Award-winning star uploaded a video of her home and revealed it had been a museum before she bought it. During the October 2018 clip, the comedian said she'd refurbished it and would take photos so people could see.
The actress' Los Angeles home that she sold was different from the two-story Hawaii one, which was more casual. It had a foyer with a large diamond chandelier, wrought iron balconies, a curved staircase that led to the second floor, and more.
In July 2022, she [Roseanne Barr] shared an Instagram photo of her with two young girls in the garden of her Hawaiian home.
In October 2020, the star shared an Instagram image of herself looking quite rugged with layers of gray and white clothing, standing outside with a long garden fork. In the post's caption, she wrote:
"Green acres is the place to be, Farm livin' is the life for me #hawaii."
One of the pleasures of moving away from the spotlight was that the comedian had more time to do whatever she pleased. For instance, Barr was able to enjoy her role as a grandmother.
Roseanne's Bond with Her Grandchildren
During a 2018 interview, Barr said having grandchildren had been the most significant change since her show ended. With six grandchildren, she noted how she had to push her children to ensure they did right by their offspring. The actress joked that it gave her a reason to be as mean as she'd always wanted.
Over the years, Barr has featured some images on Instagram showing her spending time with her grandchildren, like in December 2022, when she had a "dance party" with one of her granddaughters!
The year before, the comedian uploaded a picture with one of her grandchildren sitting outside on a garden table surrounded by orange trees. Barr revealed they'd spent time picking the fruit that day.
In July 2022, she shared an Instagram photo of her with two young girls in the garden of her Hawaiian home. The star revealed that her granddaughters were "finally together on my farm."
